I have just ventured into a purchase of a \'92 automatic RX7 FD .

I haven\'t picked the car up yet (live in Sweden) but I got it a good price so I thought what the hell, go for it. I usually drive skylines (R32 gtr\'s , R33 gts etc.) and am bored senseless with them.

What can I expect from an RX7?

I have also heard that they need an engline rebuild occasionally. Is this something I could attempt myself. I\'m quite handy with the tools so I\'m not afraid to take it apart. Where would the expense be? I hear these engines have to have the rotor tips replaced or maybe I got that bit wrong.

Anyway, it\'s nice to be off the skyline forums and on to an Rx7. I hope I\'ll be able to make a few worthy contributions in the future.

Welcome to the club Mike:)

And yep if you\'re handy with a spanner, then you should be able to handle the rotary engine if the worst should happen. You can buy a rebuild kit from the US for around £800, which includes all the apex seals etc, but remember you may also need new housings, side plates, stationary gear bearings etc, depending on how bad the engine is in once it has blown. Do a search for rotary rebuilds, there should be a few threads kicking about.

Anyway enjoy your new purchase and lets hope you don\'t have to get your spanners out too soon, ;)

You\'ve just let yourself in for a load of grief.

But that\'s enough about mazdarotaryclub.com!!!

Where about in Sweden are you?
