I am gona have a go at changing the oil myself, there are so many different makes of oil i dont know which one 2 go for, what does everyone recommend for a 3rd gen rx7????

many thanks

chrisJDM

thanks for the advice, which oil do you recommend??

the Royal purple Synthetic OEM motor oil??? is this prob the best for my car as i only currently use it for street driving.

Been Running Black diamond up front and have a set waiting for the rear. They are very nice pads. Good Bracking on standard discs. Havn\'t had them very hot yet, but am very happy with results. Hopstepper uses them on the track and has good results.

I just noticed you use Royal Purple in your seven, how did you swap from std oil to Synthetic?

Did you change it twice or use some sort of engine flush?

I ask becouse i\'m thinking of doing it and i just remember being told that they don\'t mix. Even a cup full left behind can cause problems.

I know there is a problem with Sevens and Synthetic as they don\'t tend to burn cleanly and leave deposits which cause damage but i know Royal Purple does clean burn. I would love to use it due to the longer life and better lubricating properties of synthetic.

I get mine serviced at Mazda and they used to use mineral but now use synthetic, I don\'t believe there was a flush involved. So I shouldn\'t top up the Castrol synthetic they put in with the mineral stuff I have ?

For pads, I can give you some good feedback for Hawk front and rear once I get back from the Nurburgring end of June.

I am not sure, I was led to belive it doesn\'t mix but if Mazda are doing it?? Don\'t know ??

I know i will not be using any synthetic but Royal Purple.

Which Hawks did you go for?

Im waiting but soon Royal Purple have a new machine out that flushes as it replaces the oil when changing.
Royal Purple also tell me that mixing small amounts will not cause problems. Although the more you dont get out will contaminate new oil, but again the qualities of Royal Purple should not cause a problem, ideally you want to drain oil coolers as well as engine.

There is a downloadable list of Hawk pads, as to there use and heat range on  my site.

Can\'t remember off the top of my head, I think Hawk HP+ on the back and HP10 on the front ? This is from memory so I am not sure, Clive recommended them as I am going Ring racing end of June, else it\'s just normal road use.

HT-10 front and HP+ rear - same setup I sourced from Shy.  It\'ll be interesting to see how they cope with a full Session at the Ring in terms of wear.  Have you uprated the discs too?

Nope, standard discs.

I\'ll give a full report of how everything performs when I get back, when the adrenaline eventually wears off !!!

Dear trader, it\'s "racing-bred", not "racing bread" - I know that\'s picky but it does make you look  a bit silly in front of potential customers ;)

Don\'t Endless do discs for an RX8 then? :(

If you got larger discs elsewhere could you get a larger bracket as well?

I\'ve been using HT10\'s with HP+ on the rear on standard Mazda discs for the last 3 years.Hats off to Clive at Shy,he really knows his stuff.

Unable to get them to fade after 6 quick laps, hard braking on the back straight at Donnington Park from around 125mph.

If you\'re going the synthetic route and you need to read my thread on oil before you do then I would also suggest that you consider either Silkolene PRO S or Motul 300V as they contain esters as well as pao and this helps to counteract seal shrinkage.
