drag radials have large soft sidewalls and are specifically for drag racing ... take a look at

http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip_et_street_radial.html

just because they are road legal doesn\'t mean you would want to use them on the road.

Clive or Gary sells them IIRC

If you get the Mickey Thompsom you will only get about 3-4,000 miles use if you get the nitto you will get about 15,000 miles of use.

You\'ll probably find that most tyres from Japan and the US aren\'t legal for European use anyway cos they\'re not \'E\' marked.

They don\'t need an e mark they just need speed rating and load rating to be classed as road legal over here.

MikeLMR

nothing on a car requires an e- mark if you can prove it meets  teh requirements. For example lots of rally tyres don\'t have e-marks but are road legal. Remoulds don\'t have e-mark either, just a stamp from the tyre remanufacturers association.

Ok, maybe I should clarify a little.  It\'s not so much illegal for use, more illegal for sale........

As of 1st Jan \'95 it is illegal for a tyre supplier to supply NEW tyres that don\'t come with an e-mark (except those for vehicles registered pre 1949 and for off-road or competition use).

From the 1st January 1995 it has been illegal for any person to supply re-treaded tyres unless they are marked to indicate compliance with BS AU144e.

Sorry for any confusion  :)

\'for competition use\' thats a blured line right there.

What about road legal dragsters ? the tyres are for competition use but the car is also used on the road.

Some forms of competitive motorsport take place on the public road too.

In reality, I think the onus is on the retailer rather than the end user.

As far as the road legal dragster or rally car scenario is concerned you\'ll probably find that the retailer can only legally sell them if the end user only ontends to use them during competition, i.e not to-and-from an event only during the event.

It is a bit of a grey area and to be honest it\'s not unheard of for a retailer to sell non \'e\' tyres for the road when there is no other alternative.

I have had several conversations with Hoosier, as they are on my site, and they have admitted that there are shops that do sell them and guys do run them on the rd, but they have always made it clear to me that they are not rd legal tyres and if that person has an accident as they try to drive them as they would a track day tyre, then the chances are they will get nicked for it, or you have the cooper who wants to stop noisey jap cars with loud exhausts etc.
You pays ya money ya make ya chance
