Just been looking at a rx7 "type rb." Im assuming they mean the bathurst one? could you give me any information on these cars please and are they 2+2 or strictly 2 seater. thanks alot

I have a Bathurst edition, but not one of the later Bathurst X editions.

It has twin oil coolers, front and rear strut braces, two seats + storage bins, and also has Bilstein dampers.

The later Bathurst X are much more noticable, with \'X\' decals on the pillar and I believe they have red leather seats etc..

Cheers,

Richard

In \'96 there was both the RB and the RB Bathurst, the RB was the base model and the Bathurst one up.  Not sure of the exact differences between the two other than I have read the RB didn\'t have a rear spoiler as standard.

Being a \'96 car  both will have 16-bit ECU and 265bhp as standard.

There is a model guide in the hints and tips on buying section of the board.

Hope that helps

Confused

I bought mine straight off the boat, and it was most definitely a 2 seater. I then checked the VIN through one of those checking agencies and it came back as a Bathurst edition.

So many variations, so many models, it\'s hard to pin each one down exactly.

Richard,

I mean the \'96 RB & \'96 RB Bathurst, what year is yours?

Mine is a 94, which perhaps makes all the difference :p

Yeh there was a 2-seater bathurst in \'94 based on the RII 2-seater.

Hi all
I have a 96 RB Bathurst.  The British version had 2 bins and it finished in 95
The Japanese version had 2 small seats at the back and no sun roof.  I believe the Japanese version is a touch faster.

Nice looking car, looks sweet in white.

The lack of rear seats is what confused me about mine, I always thought the Jap cars came with the 2 small rear seats.

Mine came off the boat with all the goodies you could want, bilsteins, twin oil coolers, no rear seats, front and rear strut braces but sadly did not come with any exotic alloys.

It was bone stock, the only change was the stereo.

Cheers,

Richard

Perhaps I can shed some light, as I own a 97 RB Bathurst Type X.

First there was never a UK Bathurst edition. The RX-7 in the UK was a touring version and came fully loaded with all the normal electric goodies, plus sunroof. It had 2 catalytic converters (pre cat and main cat) and this restricted its power to 237 bhp. It did come with storage bins as opposed to rear seats as it was only ever sold in the UK as a 2 seater. The UK editions ran from 92-late 95.

The "Bathurst" name was assigned to specific RX-7 models to commemorate Mazda\'s 4 consecutive wins in Australia at the Bathurst racing circuit against the likes of Porsche\'s 911 and BMW\'s M3.

Now there have been a few Bathurst editions over the years, the last one in 2000+ (yellow, Bathurst Type R).

Some Bathurst editions were based on earlier type R FD\'s others on type RB\'s. Pre 96 Bathurst Editions had the 8 bit ecu and were 255 bhp in standard form.

The 97\' RB Bathurst Type X came in a 2+2 configuration, red leather seats and carpets, twin oil coolers, 16 bit ecu with 265 bhp and the whale tail spoiler. It came in only two colours, black or white with the \'X\' decal on the side pillar.

All had pre-99 noses except the 2000+ Bathurst Type R and most came in a limited colour range. Obviously some people later updated the pre-99 front bumpers to the later spec 99 nose.

Here is the Japanese website that covers the History of the RX-7 and the various models to date.
