Hi there first post lol and its not a happy one, iv just imported a 1993 rx7 type r from japan and the first thing that happened when i started her was the bloody add coolent buzzer coming on... i`ve read a fair bit on this forum and i reckon the water seal has gone because of 2 reasons:

1 - the add coolent light comes on a fair bit and

2 - the b*****d wont start now lol

Also there a small amount of oil dripping from the middle of the engine close to the front.

Im off today to remove the plugs to check if there wet and give them a clean, hopefully they`ll be dry and black (fingers crossed).

My main question is, how long and easy is it to remove the engine, and to do the rebuild on the engine???

Is there any points i should consider before starting? like will the kit renew everything on the engine? what about the rotot thingymebob lol

Please help me guys lol:wave

The most awkward part of doing the rebuild is removing all the ancillaries, and a lot of your cost can go in replacing the rats nest of vacuum pipes, as they are going to be old a brittle.
Once the engine is out, the rebuild is not that excrutiating, providing you have experience of doing engine rebuilds on other cars etc.
Once disassembled you will be able to get a good idea of whats damaged and whats not.  I seriously reccommend getting hold of a mazda workshop manual for the car if you are going to do it yourself.
Without it you have no way of knowing what tolerences you can allow on the wear components, let alone the torque required on all the bolts on reassembly of the engine.

Well i was going to get the kit and the dvd`s from http://rotaryaviation.com i heard they were the best thing to get lol plus the engine rebuild im giving it to a friend who knows a fair bit about them lol.. im just gunna strip the car to get the engine out :D

Have you done a rebuild yourself?

Sorry if I\'m teaching you how to suck eggs but you sure its oil and not coolant?

if it\'s coming fromnear the front you could have a leak from somewhere around the rad. It\'s pretty common if your car has been sat for a long time. A hose could have perished or a clip could have come off. It would also explain why your buzzer keeps coming on. The sensor is very near the top and you don\'t have to lose much for the buzzer to come on.

The not starting could just be from a simple engine flood.

Interloper. Usually, (depending where its failed), if there is an engine water seal failure, this would force your coolant out of the expansion tank. (Thats the white plastic one, in front of the right front wheel.

Put new sparklpugs in, and see if that helps the starting. You will probably want new plugs if you are going to rebuild the engine anyway.

The leak:  remove the plastic tray under the engine, then clean everything, then let it dry.

Now start her up and get underneath and watch for where the leak is, (and what it is).

Lets make sure we do a proper diagnosis before you take the engine apart, and committ yourself to a 1,2,or3K engine rebuild. A manual is of course a good idea, except you cant buy one! There is a Mazda one online somewhere (Iluvmyrx7.com?) but also get the rebuild video from rotaryaviation.

Could be a leak from the seals between the engine and the engine bolts/sump. Had this with mine before i got it sorted.

Wouldnt cause a problem but would leave a teaspoon of oil under the car after taking her out for a run?

yup I got that one at the moment too. Not really a problem, I just check the dipstick regular and top up if needed

Brett

i had a similar leak when a helpful person overfilled my sump.  The gasket was leaking under pressure.

Well i hope so lol, the oil gauge is more than half way on startup and the dipsticks saying its just over half full too, so its not my biggest worry at the mo but i`ll keep topping it up to c

That gauge is a bit of a waste of time anyway so i wouldnt worry.
