Hi,

I only drive approx 2-3K miles a year in my REX and I was wondering if other REX owners in the same position have taken out any special sort of low milage insurance?  I went to Classic car insurers and they all said the car had to be 15 years old (mine\'s a 92 FD) to benefit from their insurance packages.  I dont see the point paying another £1000 to have my car garaged on 24 hour security patroled, gated and CCTV\'d premises.

Anyone else saved themselves money in a similar position?

Cheers  :wave

I have a limited mileage insurance set to 4500 miles per year.  It lowered the insurance by quite a bit (hundreds of pounds).  Downside is, they won\'t let me have no claims protection with the limited mileage.

To use their classic car policy, you have to meet the following 3 criteria: -

1) Car is over 10 years old.
2) Car is a second car.
3) Car is garaged.

Mine doesn\'t meet 1 and 2 :(

By the way, I\'m with Houghton Insurance Bureau Ltd.

I have a classic policy with houghtons although they have recently reviewed their policy.

The rules were:

1) car 10 years or older
2) Driver ahs to be 25 or older
3) Garaged with a thatcham cat 1 alarm.

Im paying 620 quid, for 5000 miles a year. This includes my fiancee who is 24, and im 26.

There are some good deals on classic policies if you look hard enough.

Stu : that\'s interesting, I talked to them 2 weeks ago to get the criteria.  I wonder if it\'s an inconsistency or new policy (hopefully).  It\'s all academic for me for another year anyway (I have a \'96 FD).

I think they had an influx of FD owners requesting quotes and got a bit nervous about having that much group 20 manchinery on their books.

I was well impressed with my premium, plus all my mods are totally listed.

Thanks for your advice.  Sorry, I just realised I posted this in the wrong place!  Could somebody move it to Insurance please?

Thank you!  :D

I\'m intrigued, having read so many contrasting stories about Houghtons, I will give them a bell tomorrow.  But I have just got what I think is a stonkin quote for my TypeR: £683 for 12 months fully comp with protected no claims bonus, guaranteed £8000 value, third party cover on all other fully comp vehicles and thats taking into account all my mods and 7 day ban for speeding!  Only snags are its on a 3000 mile policy and the excess is a bit high at £400.  But Tesco\'s excees is - get this... £850!!!

Oh and Admiral were less than helpful, informing me I didnt live at my address and that my car didnt exist.  It was the 1.3 or 2.6 thing again.  Funny thing was, I said its either down as a 2.6 or 1.3 and the next thing I know I\'m being given the cold shoulder.
