I was thinking the other day , while I was de-flooding the car , what are RX-8\'s like for flooding ? have Mazda managed to over come this problem ? or have they made the plugs more accessable ?

It\'s just I can\'t see alot of RX-8 drivers getting under their cars in the winter to get the plugs out , appologies to any 8 drivers that don\'t mind getting their hands dirty

Finally tuned - 317.3rwhp :burnout (thats 374.4fwhp for those who like bigger numbers)

Do you really think flooding is a big issue?

I\'ve had my FD over two years and \'touch wood\' only had it flood once.

John
I started with nothing and I have most of it left

James S

i think someone posted today that their rx8 was flooded

Tintin

mines only flooded twice in 6 months , I was just thinking about it while I was crawling around under the car knocking all the skin off my knuckles

Not had it happen to mine yet but is it just a case of taking the plugs out to let the fuel evaporate, leave an hour and replace. Or is it a more complicated process ??

Ive flooded my FD only once. I say that i did it as it was clearly my own fault.

I wont be doing it again. Steep Learning Curve.

Its simple enough to de-flood it , basically whip the plugs out , take the EGI fuse out and spin the engine over a few times to throw any fuel out of the housings, squirt a bit of oil in through the plug holes , clean and dry the plugs , pop them back in and turn the engine over for a few secs with the EGI fuse still out and plug leads off , pop the leads back on and the EGI fuse back in , pray and turn the engine over untill it starts ( not more than 15secs of cranking at a time though ) all being well the engine should start and clouds of smoke will pour out the exhaust

Theres full details on another thread somewhere , I think its a sticky , once you\'ve done it once its easy just remember to reconnect the plug leads when you try to start the engine , I forgot first time thus flooded the engine again and had tp start from scratch

No, they haven\'t fixed it, as per my thread last week...

Prodrive said they had shedloads of floods in the early days, cos of all the turning off of engines between yer skidpan session and yer track session and so on. Not so bad now because the latest version of the management puts less fuel in during shutdown.

I\'ve no idea if the sparks are easy to get to, but I need to find out, because I\'ve had hard starting ever since that flood so I think there\'s some crap on at least one of them!
