QuoteYes, you can overspin your turbos driving like this if you want to boost.

What if I take it easy, would that help??

Cheers

TBH, I can only see so much in the engine bay without start taking parts off.  So far, didn\'t find anything loose or split.......

mate, it\'s worth a look at what I said, it\'s free and takes all of about 2 minutes!

locate the black plastic box (which sits in front of the inlet body), it\'s held on by two 10mm bolts only, undo these and you\'ll notice the two vacum pipes on the side of the box, slip those off and you can just lift the plastic box away.

When you remove this you\'ll be able to see underneath the inlet manifold (where the majority of the vacum pipes reside).  Get a torch and have a look, like I say it\'s a 2 minute job, if everything looks fine so be it, but for what it takes you may be lucky and see a pipe off like I did.

This pic shows what it looks like with the plastic box out the way.  You can see the vacum pipe off of the metal pipe in the centre of the pic.  This had blown off and was giving me 0.2bar through the revs.

Yes, ^ is also good advice. Take off the pressure chamber, but label the two hoses if you take them off so you plug them back correctly. You will have a good luck under the UIM and can easily see if something is off.

If you take it easy, then yes, you could drive the car, but remember it doesnt take much throttle to push 10psi. Better be safe then sorry. So take off that black plastic box after the alternator (pressure chamber) and look around. Its 10min alltogether tops.

Just came back.
Cheers guys.  Will do once the var\'s cooled down.

Thanks

Sorry for such a late post.
Finally got a bit of time to remove that black box(much easier than I expected).
After I removed it, I was shocked.  Some how it didnt look like the pic James posted.
Will get some pics up later.

hmm, does look diferent.  It\'s almost as though the solenoids (you can see the coloured plugs to them) are turned on their sides.  Also you can\'t see the metal pipework which ties all the vacum hoses together.

Maybe someone has ditched the sequential setup for the turbos and messed around with it that way

You might do as well to take the inlet manifold off and have a proper look under there as it deffinately doesn\'t look standard.

jameswrx

You say you are getting 0.2bar, is that even at low revs?, are you not getting 0.7bar on 1st turbo at circa 2,500rpm?

If not it may be consistant with it being changed to non sequential or something

J.j.

Doesn\'t look the same ,does it?
Was worrying that I wasnt looking at the right places.
0.2 is the highest it\'ll go.  These days, I\'ve not reved it at all, so not sure about the readings......  Dont want to reck anything.
Which bit is inlet manifold?? is it the metal cover bit on the top??

Cheers

Yep the big alloy thing :D

off the top of my head..

- remove throttle cable

-remove the inlet pipe on the RHS (as you are standing at front of car)

- remove the platic elbow (at throttle body end), 4 x 10mm nuts, 2 of which are underneath and hold a solenoid on

- remove the water pipes at throttle body end, one at top one underneath (visible from standing on rhs of car)

- unplug earth strap (back LHS)

- remove another earth tag (near the one above), 12mm bolt

- Think you have to unclip the lambda sensor plug from the manifold (clipped on near earth strap)

- undo 4 x 12mm bolts holding the inlet down to the engine (all on LHS)

- remove vacum hoses from Map sensor (attatched to bulkhead, rhs) and vacum hose to the solenoid on the throttle end

- as you lift it up you will need to unplug a sensor on the underside of the inlet (air temp, i think?) and remove a vacum hose with a check valve on it from a nipple on the underside of the manifold, also 2 vacum hoses at the front near the oil filler need to be pulled off the chack valves and a breather to the oil filler

probably missed something, but gotta fly to the inlaws now..

It sounds worse than it is :D

J.j.

Sorry James, was that in English???
Right, think it\'s time to pay someone to do it then........
BTW, Im not even getting 0 bar @ 2,5k........   :(
Will get it sorted this week or so and post up, maybe of some use for other in the future, since so many of us are having boost issues.

Big thanks for those who\'ve helped.
Cheers

Hi JJ,

Check out this link, it\'s an article about how to diagnose boost problems on a 3rd gen:

http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/TurboTroubleshooting.htm

The diagram below is taking from the guide above and helps identify areas to check.  It\'s something you can do quite quickly and easily without needing to go to a specialists...

Cheers for that Spotlamp.
Will give that a go.   :D
