Hi my name is Andy! And im from Ireland... I have just bought my first Rx7 well i bought 2 but thats a story for another time....

Anyway.. She\'s on her way from Japan as i type and i can\'t wait!! Ive always liked them but never had the guts to buy 1 as they have a very bad reputation for blowing up engines and theres not really that many mechanics in Ireland that will touch them! But to hell with it.. She\'s not gonna b a daily driver as i have a 306 for work etc but in sayin that i prob will end up driving it the whole time!!! Anyway shes a 92 Type R with 54000 kms on her... Full service History from 1 owner in Japan and has a few nice mods done to her....

Ps im thinking of getting new wheels.... Whats the best offset for a FD3S?

Cheers

Andy

nice :) ..

oooh defi link meter :)

whats wrong with those wheels ?

Steve Burnett

Very nice car.
The wheels are Mazdaspeed (Rays) very nice wheels and if your thinking of selling them in sure plenty of people will offer.

AndyGen3

Koool... Didn\'t know that...

I was gonna go 4 a set of Volk Racing SF Winning rims...

But i think i mite keep the wheels and but a front mount or ecu first...

Any tips on what to go for first? What are the best brands etc?

Oh and i used to b a Scooby owner! Seen that on a couple of other threads... STi 5... My second scooby but ive seen the light!!:D

iaint

Good taste in the wheel department.  I\'m biased but I think Volk/Rays make the best looking wheels around.

On the upgrade front - ECU would be the next step.  You\'d need to do it anyway if you go for a FMIC (plus fuelling - injectors, pump and regulator).  Mapping is also important once you have a few mods on there - an Apexi on base map probably wouldn\'t do for FMIC...

Nice FD!! I\'d keep the wheels you have as they look great with the car! But if you are looking at other Wheels Rays are the main manufacturer who make tons of different styles check out there website at: http://www.rayswheels.co.jp They list the recommended offsets and stuff for the FD3S too.

Off topic slightly, but, what\'s wrong with Scoobies?  Iv\'e driven a standard UK turbo, a Jap STi and a 3 door Type-R and I found them all very enjoyable, though in a completely different way to the REX.  You can take them on tarmac almost anywhere in the country and expect to return home (a recent trip to devon in my second car made me so thankful I hadnt brought the REX - it would\'ve got stuck in all the holes!).  They handle extremely well, carry passengers, don\'t guzzle too much fuel taking into consideration the power output and cost a lot less to maintain than a Rex of the same year (my mates both have Scoob Turbo\'s which cost them peanuts compared to my Type-R Twin Turbo.  Even my mates engine rebuild was only £2000 all in).  I\'d just miss getting the rear end out on the Rex at every safe opportunity!  :)

Don\'t kid yourself man... Don\'t get me wrong now i still love them and always will but i had a Scooby turbo, STi 5 and STi 4 Type r...  And I put so much money into all them i would of had a R34 GTR paid for long ago.... Very flawed engines and not the best at takin abuse... Granted i never had a bother with the engine in the Scooby Turbo... But the rest really has put me off them for good... And the fact that ive had 3 of them seems like a good time to move on also.... my mate that i sold my old scooby turbo too wrote it off there a couple of weeks ago and wanted to go for an STi but decided in the end to go for a Skyline... And another mate who has an STi 3 is sellin his to buy a Evo 6.... Bang for buck u cant go wrong tho.... well cheaper than the evos and just as fast...

eyedee

Hmm, doesnt surprise me, these hidden costs you talk about.  Hidden in that, the majority of present Scooby owners seem to say nothing seriously negative about their babies.  Yet my mates have had lots of niggly things wrong, which nearly always result in the same response, "It\'s only a small thing.  What do you expect for spending so little money on so much car?!?".  Then his engine blew up!     And we began to here lots of stories from the mechanics of Boxer engines dieing due to seal failure and the consequent knocking.  Well, as always, its all relative...  A Skyline will take more abuse, but it will break.  And when it does, it may well bankrupt the owner.  My mates GTR32 was replaced with a GTR34 after 15K spent on a very necessary engine rebuild and car overhaul.  It kept breaking so he bought the R34 which is presently sitting in (you guessed it) a garage having its engine rebuilt!  Similarly, an Evo will break in less dramatic ways more often (they are as, or even less reliable than Scoobs!) due to the ridiculous power output from such a small engine and having to cope with the extra pressure of a more sophosticated 4WD system.

And eyedee i used to b like that and defend them to the last.... but just had enuf of them failing on me and got sick of them... Still lovely cars to drive.. very fast out of the box.. and brillant to go round corners but very weak... And parts in Ireland are majorly expensive for them....

PS looks top but first thing you wana do IMO is get rid of that or any number plate which blokes air flow to the rad/intercooler......http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm46052GB\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_1_9.gif\' border=0>
