What d\'ya reckon a decent upgrade or a load of twaddle?

Well been chatting to the guys over there and they seem to think it makes quite a difference, especially with the warmer summer months on the way. They also do a kit specifically for the Gen 2 RX7 Turbo. Includes everythin you need to install plus a 2nd reservoir for the water, didnt like the idea of plumbing it into the stock water tank, be sods law i forget to fill it up and BANG

So all this including postage £70

Will have one on the way in the next couple of weeks so will keep ya posted, plus pics of the install when i get round to doing it and my opinions of performance increase. :D :D

petemillis

You don\'t plumb it into the stock tank you donut :D
Water sprays usually plumb into the windscreen washer reservoir.

Yeah Yeah Yeah i know what i meant lol

Quote from Canward Racing

"Many thanks for your picture, we do in fact have a kit available for the RX7 Turbo, a 3 misting nozzle kit, at £50.00 + £4.99 P&P, a second reservoir for the intercooler spray system will cost an additional £15.00, it is a 2.25l bladder type reservoir."

Thats the kit i\'m gonna order, everything you need to get going.

Quotes taken from site

"The basics of the intercooler spray system is to supply a controlled fine mist of water spray at the surface of the intercooler, this in turn, cools the airflow passing through it from the hot turbocharger, allowing colder air to flow into the engines intake system."

"When fitted to our development Saab 9000 Turbo, it yielded an increase in horsepower of some 7%, without increasing the boost at all."

Have attached a pic of the rolling road tests to show the power curve much smoother when using the misting kit. Imagine how much it\'ll improve on an already modified engine, should be interesting, gonna deffo go ahead with it, give me somin to do aswell :D

Err, why dont u spray it on the inside of the inlet piping instead!

This i thought also but after asking the right questions found that its a little more complex than just spraying water into the intake, this needs a proper Water Cooled Injection System which they also supply but is alot more expensive.

The air entering the intercooler just gets cooled by the mist that is sprayed, you dont get a whole lot of water dumped into the system. Will be like driving in the winter with a colder air supply i guess. Anyway i\'m no expert but have been reasured by Andy at Conward Racing that the system once setup is a long term investment, as the only replacement parts will be the filling up of the water reservoir. The gains in power are proven on paper and the kit looks proper not a bodge. When it arrives will update the thread and let you know my thoughts, even try to get to the local rollin road and get it on paper, with the spray and without. Wonder if you could purge CO2 onto the intercooler?? :D

Oh dear the minds a wondering ;)

I noticed that demontweeks advertise a co2 intercooller kit!

Dont know any more !

I have got a NX ntercooler kit. not fitted it yet cos the car only drove for the first time today.

With water sprays, it\'s all to do with latent heat of evaporation, rather than just the temperature of the water you spray on. As the water evaporates it cools the intercooler down, in the same way as sweating is what cools you down when you\'re hot.

To be more scientific it is a transfere of energy. ie heat is energy you are using the heat energy on the intercooler surface to heat the cold water which you are spraying on to it.

im trying to put a Co2 kit on my FMIC in hopes of some good gains.. is there any body with this setup to show what kinda hourse power gains are made with the Co2 spayer?

scooby_si

yeah i\'m guna do both me think intercooler spray which is easy enough to make out of a bit of pipe with some holes in it & a pump as i recall from a few DIY projects in the scooby days which is pretty much same as the set up on the more fruity scoobs. + i\'ll go for some proper water injection which is inevitably dearer but anythings better than the temps i was getting today trying to get top speed runs.....gave up once it hit 75c not worth risking.........still 15tysumin as i recall.........all good fun!
Si (saves for proper intercooler/charge cooler......)

rx7veilside

i would save ur money and wait for proper water injection the temp drop on a sprayed intercooler once u account for the amount that will be blown away from intercooler at speed and the time taken for the water to cool the fin to cool the air will be pointless..only one scoob ever had a water spray as i remember and most people allways ditched this in favour of bigger front mount and water injection
