Hi

Having now bought a \'93\' 3rd gen. I am looking to de-cat it, but have been told to watch out for spikes in the boost detonating the engine, my quetion is:

would a boost control like the Apexi AVC Type R take care of this, or would I need a completeley new ECU?

I\'m going to fit a new Apexi induction system to replace the ARC unit that is currently fitted (anyone want the ARC?), and the car also has a power flow rear box fitted.

any help appreciated, Nik.

with the de-cat you would need both the boost controller and an ECU, the ECU stops the engine running lean and detonating which will happen on a de-cat.

Nik, you dont want to do this unless as Rich said you replace the ECU to sort the fuelling out.

A full de-cat with on its one will cause boost spikes. Yes the Apexi AVC should be able to deal with this.

But as you have an induction kit as well, you need to make sure that the car does not run lean. Find a rolling road and get them to do a run for you, they will tell you if its lean or not.
