My car has the above twin plated clutch fitted.  The other day I fluffed a launch giving it too much revs whilst lifting off.  It slipped, changed into second and slipped again.  I knew what was happening so backed off before the revs could get too high.  Further up the road I put my foot down in 3rd, was ok til the 2nd turbo come in and it slipped a bit.  So I thought Ive heated it up, drove carefully home.  Thing is it’s the same now, after a couple of days.

Have I finished off an already dieing clutch?  I assumed this clutch would more than handle the power.  The car isn’t silly modded, has done 50k ish mile and I assume the clutch hasn’t been in there for all of that.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I had one of those mate, mine eventually did the same thing, when i went to try and replace the friction pads i was told they dont come seperatley, you need to replace the friction plates and the metal plates and the spring plate, basically an intirely new clutch. my advise would be bin it, and replace it with a RPS street/strip clutch, single plate, its as easy as stock (slightly heavier pedal but not much) and it can handle a good bit of power too, got it from Whifbitz see the link below, reasonable price too...

I think a Giken rebuild kit for a twin plate is in the order of £450-500...

They are very good clutches.

I can only speak from what l have seen so this may not nessaceraly be the norm /

Ist one l saw a little while ago was so badly worn in general that it was well beyond even a rebuild kit so we put it in the bin!

The other is a guy who we are waiting for his rebuild kit to arrive this week, he managed to tear the centre clean out of one of the drive plates !.

Rich is right the rebuild kit is just under £500.

I have been around twin plate Sintered / Ceramic Clutches for around 20 years now and although this is only my opinion, to me the OS stuff looks real prehistoric and £500 seems an awful lot of money to rebuild one of these clutches.
All the best Clive

What \'uprated\' clutch would you recommend?  I want one that isnt so noisey!!  And not a silly price!  :)
