I\'ve got a UK FD and intend keeping it in one piece, someone mentioned recently that they had it on good authority that there are only about 40 UK ones left. Few more winters and the figure might drop further.

Just bought a Racelogic traction control system for mine, will get it installed soon, should mean even less chance of mine ending up as a statistic!

a retro fit traction control system? how much are they? how do they work? do they link up with the ABS and the throttle?

tell me tell me!!

I got mine second hand through a member here but they are easily available frmo a number of suplpiers in the country. The company who makes them is called Racelogic, their systems are pretty much top of their game from what I can gather and are used in loads of very expensive motors.

I\'ve not had mine fitted yet due to lack of funds with buying a house but should be in and fitted by end of summer. My car\'s only half boosting at the minute so not crazy fast anyway

The system hooks into the ECU and takes information from the ABS system to determine wheelspin, on detecting this it will cut the fuel injection system. All this is done in milliseconds. The racelogic unit has variable levels of slip that can be setup ranging from wet 0% right up to 30% or off.

I\'ve not found much information from people installing over here but in the states a few people are running without any probs on the rotary engine.

Hope that helps.

Gareth

P.S. my system also has launch control, will be worth a play but don\'t fancy cooking my clutch. :D

Just done a brief update on the website, mainly more pics though!  :cool

Hi Andrew

Your website mentions:

Quote...Mazda had been building the RX7 for 24 years, through 3 "generations" and 8 revision models, before it decided to finally sucumb to the ever increasing pressure of enviromental policies, and stop production in August 2002...

What exactly were these environmental concerns and how did they impact production so significantly?

I would be fascinated to hear about any more information that you might have on this subject.

Thanks

Pipps

Brett

The changing emissions laws gradually killed off the Rx7 line in every continent.  Given the age of the design etc it wa not practical to revise it again in order to meet the requirements.

Nice page there man! Would be nice to a site like that devoted to the FC3S Infinni versions III and IV.

Again another last hurrah before the end (FC\'s died out and production of FD\'s began) Not much info out there for those cars. Production numbers were something like 900 for the III ver and 700 for the IV?

RARE and lush! Lol!

Pretty much as Brett says, I believe. I\'m afraid I don\'t have exact information though - I was generalising my comments based on what I had read at the time.

What exactly do you mean?

Does the Rx7 produced particularly high CO2 emissions?

Is this something characteristic of the rotary engine in general?

Thanks for helping me understand this.

In short - Yup.

High CO2 and Particlates, iirc.  The rotary engine is fairly impressive in the power it generates from a small size, but it\'s not overly efficient in the power it extracts per litre of juice it drinks...

I believe that is why UK models have 2 Cats (pre-cat and main cat), and why the hardest bit of the MoT is (usually) passing the emissions test...
