Can someone give me some tips on the following Compression test:

Front:
low 5
low 5
low 6

Rear:
Low 6
Low 6
Low 5

How long does she have?  ;)   Is it possible to claim on the warranty for an engine rebuild?

Thanks guys

the lemster

well form what I can remember out of the factory compression for jap imports is about 8,  mightbe less for uk spec cars... and if I am correct when it gets down to about 4-5 its time for a rebuild... well not because its knackered but just tired...

claiming on the warranty might be a bit tricky if the engine still works... as they only seem to pay out in event of breaking... just from experience, and they will try and find any reason for not paying....

you should be ok for a while on 5-6\'s but it would be owrth saving a bit of money for when the time comes...

good luck

Who tested it and what did they say?

The owner of one im thinking of buying just had it done and faxed it through.  Not sure who done it :(

I just phoned Jimmys in Norwich, supposedly an RX7 specialist, he said its time for a rebuild now  :(  He also said he would charge 3-4k if you replace the chrome housing?  Which he advised along with a coolant system overhall.  This is worrying me, its a shame as the RX is a beauty, fell in love with it  :(

Any advise?

If already have this car i would get it into a specialist for a check up. You dont really know who has done compression test and so could do with getting a reputable firm take a look and give you and honest opinion.

Advise - Look elsewhere, try and get one with a recent rebuild and then you could spend 3-4k on making it look exactly how you want it...

Not long in all likeliness :(

Get if for the right money and budget for a rebuild or forget it. A rebuild will go you about £3K with new housings I would say.

No chance of getting a rebuild on the warranty. Firstly, it\'s wear and tear and secondly, if you do buy it, you would have bought it knowing the engine is already tired.
What are the actual readings though? If they\'re like 5.9 5.8 6.1 front and 6.1 6.2 5.9 rear then they ain\'t bad. But if you\'re talking 5.1 5.2 6.9 front and 6.8 6.2 5.3 rear then it ain\'t good!
