Do not listen to RX& speedy....he could only have is supra turbo on the road for 3 days before it went off the road cos it had fueling problems!!!!!!!!:D :D

Sorry dave, was that the insurance reason aswell????:D :D

Be ready for: 16mpg, potential £3000 rebuilds, trouble sourcing cheap parts and high insurance prices.

So why should you buy one?

Because (IMO) all of the above can be forgiven when you look at what the RX7 gives you in return.

You can go down the street racer route, and make an extremely fast car quite easily, thanks to light weight and high power.  std RX7 is around 1200kg and 260bhp.   std Supra non turbo is around 1800kg and 220bhp.  Think of the head start you get when tuning!

Alternatively if your looking for a subtle, classy look, all you have to do is keep it standard. I turn up to work in a suit, get out of my RX7, and feel fine.  No offense to Supra owners, but thanks to a certain film and the fact that young chavs can now afford to buy/insure non turbo supras, the image of the supra is nowhere near that of the RX.  GTR\'s and supras/evo\'s are great cars, and they look mean as hell, but they don\'t look beautiful.  RX7\'s are (most of the time) both good looking and pretty manly.  If you get me. :rollin

Another reason is that the interior of the Supra is only a slightly nicer place to be than the interior of a casket.  The big slab of plastic that Toyota call a dash is just hideous.  All of the older Jap cars struggle with interior design, but the RX is actually pretty good. Certainly a world away from the supra.

Last but by no means least, you buy exclusivity.  Although the amount of RX\'s in the UK is increasing daily, they\'re still fairly uncommon, and that can only be a good thing.

Note: all of the above is, of course, my opinion.  Go to a supra forum or a GTR forum and you\'ll no doubt get a different reply!

Think that just about covers it! :cool

BECAUSE THEY ARE GREAT!

You should be asking yourself WHY shouldn\'t i buy an Rx7?

;)

hmmm,
QuoteBECAUSE THEY ARE GREAT!
about does it!

This reliability thing grates! All high performance cars have reliability issues and high running costs, just ask a Ferrari owner if he objects to £5000 services!

Yes the rotary engine has a short ish lifespan but al engines die and of the performance engines the Rotary is one of the cheapest to rebuild!

My V4 STi wagon was good, faster than my FC but nowhere near as much fun! Also in the 8 months I owned it I needed a new clutch, had boost problems, had the limp home mode kick in 12 times and I only covered 4000 miles in the thing! Last thime I took it to a specialist they told me that they had done 2 rebuilds on the same car in 6 weeks (at £4k each!!!!) so not even the legendary Imprezza is bulletproof (although you have to be going some to blow an engine in 6 weeks!).

The RX7 is one of the most attractive cars in the world (at any price) the Supra is a bit fat to be honest and in N/A form is no match for a tuned 206GTi let alone an RX7. If you mod the pants out of a N/A you\'ll be spending £££££ and shortening the engine life. Not sure but I suspect the rebuild cost on a 3.0 Supra block would be a hell of a lot more than the 13b REW!

Loud? Hell yes! :D

I`ll never win this battle but 7.5k will just buy a Supra Twin Turbo. UK ones are 326bhp as standard. As for reliability, a well known Supra specialist services one that has over 300k on the clock. If you`re stretching to spend that much i wouldn`t have either. It`ll only take a problem with either car and you`re talking big money. Set your standards slightly lower and work your way up.

Maybe an automatic, but I don\'t think you\'ll get a manual turbo for £7.5..

MikeLMR

you should buy an rx7 because YOU want to no one else can tell you why

P.S moving to the correct forum

Doubt you\'d get a UK Supra Twin Turbo for £7.5k.  I\'d be suprised if you saw much change from about £12k maybe 13k :eek

TBH, i\'d be happy with any of the cars you\'ve mentioned and personally recently considered them all too.  I\'m prolly going down the Rx7 root as they are IMO the best looking car and most exclusive (read rare) of the jap performance cars in the UK.

My other choice was a WRX scooby.  Prolly is a better choice for me thanks to the naff Welsh roads around me :(

Maybe ideal for a scooby but no so for the rex!

Flat_Steve

I think I\'d kinda agree with that!  Most low-slung sports cars with stiff suspension prefer flat smooth asphalt...

MikeLMR

all the more reason not lower a car and put rediculously low profile tyres on it
