Setting up and tuning ITBs, who has done it?

We want to use ITBs for our track car, but most people we talk about tell us its a pain in the arse.
The hardware setup should be pretty easy, and we have an adaptronic ECU laying around to control it, but can anyone tell me what else is there to think about?
We basicly dont want to blow up a freshly rebuilt engine.

what car and engine and what mods on engine do you have already?

S4 FC3S, 13b N/A.
It will have a bit of street porting done, other than that we will be running a pretty standard setup.
