This event, one we've not run before  :D , will have a mix of fun, experience, training and competitive elements. Some "classroom" theory, plus lots of practical stuff driving on a low-grip surface. Rockingham has a purpose-built stretch of smooth "Basalt" tiles, constantly sprinkled with water to closely resemble the grip level on an ice road. Anyone who has been on the skid pan at "Pro-Drive" in the past will know what I mean! The video below shows it quite well.

This event is only open to people registered on the MRC and RX8 Owners Clubs, so we can keep a club feel to the day.

AIM: To learn some skid theory, experience various skid situations in your own car, learn what it feels like and how to control it.
WHERE: Rockingham Motor Speedway’s dedicated “Low Grip” facility, near Corby, Northamptonshire.
COST: Normally £178.80 (£149+VAT) for a half day, but we have been offered a “bespoke/closed” club exclusive day at £145 (inc VAT) each  :D
NUMBERS: The event can handle a maximum of 14 cars (with one driver per car), but we need a minimum of 12 cars to make this viable.
WHEN: 08.30 â€" 13.15, Friday 3rd April (Good Friday)
WHAT TO EXPECT: The provisional agenda is as follows â€" the day will start with one group, then be split into two groups to minimise waiting time on the “wet grip” facility.

FUN ACTIVITY is an ice-breaker (forgive the pun  :D ). All cars will drive the kick plate and experience the ice tiles before starting the programme proper. The kick plate is a device which will send you sliding in a random direction over a slippery surface.
TEST 1 & WORKSHOP is a snapshot of what the driver knows (or think’s he/she knows!) before receiving any teaching. The workshop goes into depth on causes of skids, analysis of a crash/losing control, weight transfer, technical systems understanding, skid correction theory and much more.
SKID AREA is what it says. Each driver will in-turn learn braking, acceleration, steering and gear techniques, using low grip surfaces and the kick plate
AUTOTEST using the kick plate and wetgrip drivers complete a course against the clock.
TEST 2 to measure how effective the learning has been a 2nd test will be completed.
DEBRIEF including some awards.

More Details;
The event is being organised by Steve Lewis, who holds the highest ARDS (Association of Racing Driver Schools) “S” qualification. Many of us have met Steve at various trackdays where he is often present to give trackday tuition and is highly regarded. More general info on the type of thing to expect can be gleaned via this video and links (note, we have a bespoke course, focussing on Skid Control, so not all elements will be included);

If you want a place, then please post up below and I will update the list. We need to get to 12 names minimum by 26 January or the event may be cancelled. If we get more than 14 names I will start a reserve list. If we do get the numbers, a 50% deposit will be required between 26 and 31 January, the remainder no later than one week before the event.

I'm up for it, I hope there will be enough interest for it to go ahead. As the event will end at lunchtime, I'll look at the possibility of an optional meal at Rockingham, or a nearby pub/restaurant.

You don’t need to re-quote this post, simply post up a reply and I’ll keep this first post list updated.
