This question has been asked many times but I don\'t think an answer has ever been given.

Question is, What coolant are you guys using, where do you buy it from?

Also what is the procedure for filling up the system?

Please only respond to this if you can answer the question as most times this question has been asked the thread has fizzled out with other questions being asked along the way.
I know this will help a few of us.

Thanks
Steve

Hey Steve,

If ya can wait a week I\'ll try and take some pics of my coolant flush. As i\'ve never done one i\'m getting mine done by the garage, but i\'ll be taking lots of piccies :D

Perfect! Cheers Andy. What coolant you using?

I\'m using what JPS are advising. I heard most are good that\'s non-gly*somethingorother* I\'ve asked for good stuff for tracks as i\'m off to Germany soon. Think most people use Redline though?

I\'d give one of the rotary places a ring and ask them what they use if ya after it yaself.

I was a bit unsure about bleeding etc. As I say I wanna do mine myself in future so I\'ll take lots of decent pics for ya :D

Hi Steve,

To do it 100% properly you need 50% antifreeze and 50% distilled water ( the water stops corrosion )

This site\'s area should give you all the info you need.

Hope this helps
All the best Clive

(taken from a U.S. Site....)

1. Turn on heater in car.

2. Remove both filler caps (remember the one with the spring goes on the AST, the one without the spring goes on the engine fill tube).

3. Remove rad drain plug (there is a small hole dead central towards the front of the plastic undertray, a largish phillips screwdriver will suffice) and engine drain plug (just below and between lower spark plugs).

4. Once drained (into containers for recyling/disposal of course), rinse with clean water - you can force it in both directions using a hose. Remove throttle body hose at this time to ensure full flush of system. You can also force water into this hose. Just don\'t use a good seal between the hose and the car, so you don\'t overpressure the car\'s system. The overflow tank should also be rinsed out. You can drain it using a short hose and the syphon principle. You will likely find "grundge" in the tank. This is normal.

5. Once all water has drained out you can use air to get a little more out. Replace drain plugs, but leave throttle body hose off.

6. Refill with mixture of your choise (water wetter, distilled water, ethylene glycol, or propylene glycol in whatever % you determine best for your application - I use 50/50 (or close) distilled water/ethylene glycol. Watch the throttle body hose closely as you -slowly- refill the system. As soon as you get coolant coming out of it put it back on. "Burp" the system as you get close to full by squeezing the rad hose. Put some of the mixture in the overflow tank as well (up to the "normal" level - for cold).

7. Replace both caps and start car. Watch closely as it warms up for leaks/warning lights. Leave heater on until car is warm. Once car cools off (next morning perhaps) check coolant level in engine filler tube. If lower than 1-2" you may add a bit more coolant. You may want to burp it again at this time as well.

Let the car cycle for a few days to see where it "settles" re coolant level. If it appears to be pumping coolant into the overflow tank, and not sucking it back, you have a -vacuum- leak at one of the caps. Replace them.

Thanks for that info, mine seemed to take an eternity to take the coolant onboard tonight, maybe due to leaving the TB hose attached :( - also seems that the little plastic

Teach me to follow the service handbook

Oddly enough the car warmed up fine, after I shut her down I left the ignition turned one click and after 20mins the \'add coolant\' buzzer came in - needless to say I\'ll try adding a little more to the car tomorrow before work  :D
