The first question is the one that burns the most for me, or lack thereof... The heater fan, it blows. No more puns now! I swapped the Logicon (with the box on the back), I swapped the fan, the brushes, greased up the bearings in the motor, checked the two relays, and swapped the plug for individual spades.

People in the US say it is a really good heater system in this car, and I have been in a friends FC, mine just sucks, really. I mean, I could probably de-ice the windscreen with my breath faster.

Now, I don\'t have the car here, it is 1500km away, so bear with me, I can\'t ohm anything or whatever, but I know that I have checked almost every square inch of that system, and I can\'t find the culprit! I ran the fan on the battery with the engine off, it ran better. So somewhere between the fan and the logicon (or the battery), there is something wrong. And it is the only thing wrong inside my car, so it is only connected to the heater system.

Now, the other question, which doesn\'t really bother me that much, as the car does work, but it was a weird way getting there.

The car ran well, boosted 0,9 bar with FCD chipped with Rtek and RB full exhaust, timing set spot on, nothing wrong with it. Before I was bothered with knocking and overboosting, and I sourced it to bad wiring at the ECU, so the trailing coils didn\'t get power. Before that I just tweaked boost and timing to get rid of it, but that ain\'t the way to do it.

Now, the car ran perfectly for half a year after that, probably 3000km, roof down, norwegian summer. Then came autumn, and I thought "Hey, my engine bay looks like utter crap, I need to clean it up!". Amonst it was the e-fan I installed with questionable fastening methods, and questionable wiring. Anyways, the car worked till this very moment.

Then I got hold of electrical tape and cable ties. Since I moved the boost solenoid when I removed the rats nest, I just hacked it in place somewhere with 2m of wiring, fixed this, also taped up other stuff that wasn\'t exactly looking nice.

When I was done, I used over a roll with electrical tape, but it did look alot better. But the knocking was back. I had to advance the timing some degrees, without measuring exactly I\'d say 5 degrees. Boost when woosh away, 0.4 bar. To get my old boost level back I had to put a hose clamp on the hose to the wastegate actuator with the good old boost solenoid in place.

I got it up to 0.8 bar, runs okay. One other thing, which isn\'t bad, just funny really, is that the pipe from the turbo to the 90 degrees hose to the IC cracked at the BAC nipple, so I swapped the hole lot from the turbo to the IC with a rubber hose, reinforced of course, so it\'ll hold the boost. But the sound, I mean, I have never heard such a surge/sucking sound from a car before. It sounds like a jet plane taking off when I hit 0.5 bar. And the only thing I ever did was swapping that pipe with the rubber hose. I tested with the broken pipe with a coin and a roll of electrical tape, no such noise, till the tape went, of course.

Anyways, LOADS of text, but I think these two issues needs the detail I give to get rid of the problems I have.

Cheers!

Heater Fan - well - if it\'s electical then perhaps it could be the power transistor module that sites on the blower motor - that\'s used to control motor speed from a signal from the logicon.  The other possiility is that your heater matrix has blocked up or isn\'t transferring heat well - could need a good clean out.  It\'s a pig to get to, but it\'s fed from the two pipes that pass through the bulkhead, so it should be possible to test the flow through it at lest for the water circuit.  Testing the airflow through it - that\'s a different matter - there are yards of plastic ducting inside the dash - you could easily have a piece missing, broken or blocked.

As for the boost issues - not sure, but that \'jet\' noise is almost certainly a vac leak - I had one 4mm hole that messed with my warm idle and sounded like a banshee when you revved the engine - easily fixed, but hard to find.  Check that your rubber pipe is properly sealing and isn\'t mis shaping under vac/boost and causing the leak.  Forget jubillee clips and wire clips - get a proper ACE style hose clamp or two - you\'ll wonder why you didn\'t use them before.

The rubber hose came from a charged 1.6 Toyota engine, it does work under boost, seen it on another engine ;)

Funny thing is, there isn\'t a vac leak. For some reason, these engines have a tendency to go mad over vac leaks, disturbing idle (dying is the common cause for me on vac leaks) and so. The rest of the system is tested. I am thinking turbulence and the fact that it is larger size, even more turbulence. But I have checked for vac leaks in this system, and treated them, 10 times. This isn\'t the same.

Also, the sound, it isn\'t like the noise you get from a vac leak, it is the sound of a turbo sucking in air, just multiplied by 5. Not the wind noise from the rear side of an airplane, the front of the engine, massive turbine sucking air sound! I kinda like it, sounds almost like a huge screamer piped wastegate, like 70mm or so :D

But these two aren\'t connected either, as I got the problems with the boost before I had the problems with the pipe and swapped it...
