Hi guys,

Wondered if someone could shed some light on this... Basically, I just picked up my new (to me) FD3S from Martin on Monday. I LOVE the car but I have a little intermittent problem where when the car is sat idling, it will occasionally after around 30-40 seconds turn off. As far as I\'m aware, the car is standard except an exhaust and turbo timer. I am a little concerned as its a new car to me and I don\'t want anything to be wrong that\'s critical etc. everything else seems ok, under load and boosting etc. There don\'t appear to be any ominous noises coming from the engine - not to my ears anyway. Could anyone help with this and give me some ideas as to what I could try to help this?

The car idles at just under 1000rpm most of the time but sometimes does drop down to the last line on the rpm gauge before the 1000 marker... All fluids are ok coolant and oil both checked and topped up this morning. Filled oil with 10w 40 mineral oil as told to do by Hayward Rotary.

I am going to be taking the RS up to Hayward on Saturday to have a general inspection done of the car by them and they can check the idle problem then, but I just wanted to know what you guys think?

Thanks in advance, Jon.

Maybe just a little tweak of the idle adjuster screw will sort it. Carl will figure it out, sounds like a simple fix TBH.

That\'s what I was thinking too. I\'m sure he will :-)

you shouldnt need to change that at all, maybe a leak in the pipes?  have you checked the hose that goes out the maf sensor?  its on the far right side of the engine bay if you stand at the front of the car

Sounds to me like its idling on choke fine then when the choke switches off its not idling quite high enough and is stalling. I had the same problem and found the best way to sort it is to look under the inlet plenum for a flat head screw (it\'s on the right from memory) screw this all the way in then adjust the idler screw (where the throttle cable is) you can then scre the inlet plenum one out a bit again until you find the perfect balance :)
