Hi all,

I have been offered an uprated organic Exedy clutch, I have been told its uprated and have no reason to doubt that, however it only has 4 springs, whereas all of the other uprated disks/kits I have seen for Exedy have had 6 springs, could the uprated 4 spring clutch just be a \'stage 1\' type clutch and the 6 spring sort being the heavier uprated sort?

I need to know asap as its part of a deal, I know the OEM clutch has 4 springs, ive never seen an uprated clutch with just 4 springs.

The FC I scrapped was meant to have one in that had only had a months use. It turns out it wasn\'t an Exedy clutch in the end but when I googled it it is made by a sister company of theirs. I\'m sure it only has 4 springs. I can check tomoz if you like.

If you could that would be useful, im guessing that the part number should be on the plate though? As in stamped into the centre?

Mitch, are you referring to the springs in the centre which are there to provide a \'bit of give\' when you engage the clutch ?

There is also an amount of springiness between the faces of hte clutch disk itself, and then of course the springs in the coverplate that hold the fingers - it\'s these two spring forces that the throwout bearing works against and basically define the clamping force the clutch can provide in conjuction with the 2 metalic friction surfaces and the organic material on the clutch disc itself.

I think Exedy\'s sister company is called Daikin - but those clutch discs are usually the slightly uprated stock replacement.  The upgrade cutch disks were in the pink/grey boxes, and the cover plate is usually silver not painted.

Was it one of these by any chance :

The clutch has a purple centre, think it has a silver pressure plate though, am I correct Exedy only sell as a kit and you can\'t buy just the disk, both are apparently uprated. I have seen a few Exedy \'stage 1\' clutches with a 4 spring disk and silver pressure plate, so it might just be an uprated street clutch rather than a HD race/fast road clutch.
