I am looking to build a "different" kit car. My firm makes MEV Exocet which is MX5 based. I used to have RX7\'s years ago and always loved the free revving engines. In terms of performance what could I expect from a gen2 13B and RX7 box in a car weighing around 600kgs? 0-60 estimates would be very useful.
I am not convinced there will be a market for an RX7 based kit car but I have just got to have one provided the performance sounds exciting, any advise would be very welcome, thanx in advance, regards Stuart

Hi Stuart,
I would reccomend using an RX8 engine block as it is still 13b but big advantage is being able to keep noise low much more easily than the early 13bs due to different exhaust ports and also 9000 rpm is available with well over 200hp.
0 to 60 time would depend on traction but reckon on easy 4 seconds.

We warranty our rebuilt engines for Detonation, track day\'s and RWYB and NOW for 30 months which is two and half years or 30,000 miles
We also build all types of race or road engines.
We build race and track cars too.
Any kind of porting undertaken.
Single turbo conversions.

I know a chap who owned a westfield with a 13b in it and another with a striker/fury with a 13b turbo in it. There is another 7 type car out there with rx8 engine that from what I believe was quite quick

Hi Stuart,  I have seen your work on various forums.  Very impressed with your innovation and styling.  I have built a Stylus with a Gen 2 turbo engine and box and a tiger with a RX8 engine and box.

The main issue you will face is the IVA and emissions. You could get an RX8 through and they are cheap enough to buy now, in fact they are getting to the price where they could be a donor car.  The main issue is the engine management. Its tied into the car on the rx8 and doesnt really work unless its getting signals from all the sensors around the car.  I have heard rumours of being able to flash/remap it but not seen it done yet.

We used a Motec ECU on our one and it works very well but isnt cheap. Its one of the few that will control the variable intake valves.  Some of the tuners on here may be help a little more with that side of things. The car made 251 at the fly on the dyno.

The stylus runs a mircotec and is turbo charged with just over 400 bhp. The car was already registered before the rotary engine was fitted and the tiger is a track car so been put through the IVA.  Both are for sale now :(

400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

^^^^^^^^ that\'s the ones.

And here is the other one

But I have always fancied putting a 13b in the back of a car similar to a spire gtr or MNR LMP

my cousin just sold his complete turbo II engine that was mated to a Porshe 911 gearbox. They buyer is putting it in the back of a Skoda
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

Sweet.
Volks conversions in oz do those adaptors and also one to mate to a subaru impreza box for about $400 oz dollars

Brett

Always a good combination :)

BTW, I\'m going to move this to the \'Other Rotaries\' section as I\'m not sure why its in the FC section?

Cheers :wave

probably cos Stuart was asking about using a 2nd gen donor car

*cough*

I\'m a prize :censored::censored::censored::censored:.

Thank you for your replies , what a friendly bunch.
I am not concerned with IVA as I have road legal car I can use, I am also making what I call Superlight which is comparable to a MX5 prototype or a Lotus 2 eleven.
This has an old 1.8 MK1 MX5 engine in it at the moment and it is very tempting to leave the  subframes in and modify to fit the rotary in.
Could anyone advise on a ball park figure on supply of a recon engine with gearbox/ancillaries/ecu/engine loom. In other words a complete conversion kit. I can then get a prop shaft made and re mount the MX5 diff, assuming ratios are about right.
Loving those wings on the Tiger! Very mean looking.

If you\'re prepared to rebuild a duff motor I know someone with a complete 231ps RX8 that he\'s about to break, he\'s been told it has low compression and wants a change.  Can\'t help with a Gen2 though.
RX8 High Power, Cusco Coilovers, Dotz wheels and flames. Shoe Size 12

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

Martin @ Speedline imports bolted a turbo II engine into his MX5, all he needed was modified engine mounts, shorted propshaft and the OEM rear axle/diff which apparently seems to just bolt in.
