Replacing Boot Struts

Hi All,

I have searched but can\'t find any info on how to change the boot lifting struts on the FD.  

The struts are connected at the lower end by what seems like a massive rivet type affair?!? I don\'t want to start prying at things that might not be designed to be pryed out if you know what I mean.  

I\'m assuming the ball end just pops off the tailgate though, please correct me if I\'m wrong.

Any help appreciated so I can get at stuff in the boot without getting brained by a heavy tailgate.
