I have a Gen 3 1999 Type RS and it had been fitted with a Bose stereo system at some point, it still has the Acoustic wave in the boot but the wires have all be changed and the originals are not used any more. does any one have any info on the original wiring or a diagram for the factory set up. the factory wires are in the boot still but not plugged into it. i would like to use the wires again and the built in amp in the acoustic wave if possible..
I also want to fit a double din stereo but i dont seem to be able to find a mounting surround kit for this year of car.. can any one help me please?

double din is only 1 size, it should just fit straight in, mine did

yes i know that double din is one size but the shop where i looked at stereos was talking about a surround kit that makes the fitting neat and look nice.... but even after he told me about them he couldnt find one any where. Wolfie1 Did your double did unit just fit in and there was no plastic surround needed- how does it look? what speaker set up do you have in your rx7 and what was the wiring like?

wolfie1

i bought a connector wire and it just plugged straight in, i am running infinity kappa speakers. yea mine just fitted straight into the dash once i put the cage in

yeah the natural space is perfect for a double DIN (or single with a pocket etc). IMO the acoustic wave isn\'t great...car audio has come a long way since it was first designed and it takes up a fair bit of space. Might be better off thinking about a more modern and simple set up and just strip out the wave. Either way download yourself a copy of the factory service manual and it\'ll have pretty much everything you need

ok fair point, but if i remove the acoustic wave then there will only e the front 3 speakers in the car, this will be enough to get a good sound?
also the carpet will need to be replaced, easy to pick one up in good condition?

stick a sub in the back, or a couple of 8"s. You can get active ones that take up hardly any space...Also there are 5 speakers in the cabin, 2 front doors, centre of the dash and 2 rears (5x7s i believe). I replaced both door speakers, both rear speakers, made the centre speaker redundant and built a custom box for a 12" shallow mount subwoofer (probably gonna rebuild this again for a more specific fit) all driven off a 5 channel Alpine amplifier. The sound is brilliant to say the least but it doesn\'t come cheap. Think I spent about £500-£600 not including the stereo, but it can be done cheaper depending on components used. Almost any aftermarket stuff is better than OEM.

cheers for the info, but i only have the door speakers and the dash one as its a 99 RS and the back ones are storage things, not really useful as far as i can see. im going to have a trip to an audio place to see what the y make of it and get the speakers tested before i start removing things, if its not knackered dont try to fix it....
