I had to remove my thermostat from the coolant system today. as it was jammed.
what are the pro\'s n cons for running without it permanently???

I don\'t think there is any operating issues with running without one, however the car will take longer to get up to temperature and thus for all the seals to expand in the engine, plus the heater won\'t be as good until the 5-6 litres of coolent are up to temp - rather than the few litre inside the block that warm up first before it opens to cool it down.

It won\'t really cause issues as per say, but its probably best to install a new one so that the engine stays at the recomended temperature all the time.

put a new one in, they\'re only about £20 anyway!

Cons - extended warm up, higher fuel consumptions, faster wear of internal engine parts, due clearances not being as designed.  Oil could require more frequent change out, due to sludge formation.  In winter you car may not get up to temp, so your heater will be rubbish.

Pro - none

The thermostat in my E36 broke during winter, car would warm up in traffic and cool down when you were booting it due to the radiatior

What a ....... to change it was too!!!!

bumpstart

the mazda system uses a BYPASS thermostat

removing it means the system is on full bypass all the time
( shortcutting the radiator and looping back to the engine via the bypass hole )

this is NOT good

mazda factory race water pump housings run no thermostat,, but have the bypass port sealed over for this reason

if you wish to run no thermostat you MUST tap a 1/2 inch BSP pipe blind bung into the thermostat bypass passage at the bottom of the thermostat

I\'m guessing you better put a new on in :Giggle
