after finaly getting a pump thats not been hacked at. ive hit a prob my rx7 has 3 power steering lines.
it has the normal line out and return from the cooler but it also has a small 3rd that went to the pump what the hell is this for? as it only went to the pump and the rack. can i get away with just blocking it off?

Look here: http://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/2nd_gen/Mazda%20Service%20Manuals/1989-91%20Factory%20Service%20Manual/10_steering_system.pdf at pages N-2 and N-3 as there are two types - electronic controlled and engine speed controlled. The electronic one has additional line from the pump to the rack which from the looks of it is a second, smaller pressure line that presumably supplies the varying assistance. I\'d assume that when blocked off it works as per the other rack as when you look they both use the same casting just without the port put into it.

I don\'t know for sure but am about to do exactly the same on my car having drawn this conclusion. Incidently I\'ll take some pics and do a brief write up when I\'ve done it.

yer im going to do a write up i just got really confused when i saw 2 out puts from the pump and 2 inputs to the rack when most only have 1.

i was wondering if there were 2 diffrent racks as was going to get the other rack as blocking off the rack could be a bit of a mission with getting the welds to perfectly seal. ill give it a shot first though.
