Missing strut brace!

A question for you technogeeks! The 1998 model year FD3S cars seem to have come from the factory without a front strut brace as I am yet to see a photo of an unmodified car with one fitted. Why was this ? All the earlier year models seem to have a strut brace fitted as standard.
