Hi,

I am looking into rebuilding and porting my spare EGI engine (as a few people are aware of in the FC forum) and have a few questions.  Basically I am going to attempt the rebuild myself as I would like to a) learn about engine mechanics and b) because my budget dictates this.

I have pretty much decided that a Bridge port will be as big as I want to go as I do want to retain some driveability for the weekends when im not tracking it.  I have also pretty much decided that I would like to go down the carb\'d route and this is where my first question comes up.

Looking at various sites the 51 IDA seems to be recommended for anything above and including a bridge port.  That is fine apart from the fact that this seems to be around $845 compared with $545 for a 48 IDA.
So my question is,  would the 48 IDA be sufficient for a bridge port?

Secondly as I am looking to get the parts over the course of time (due to budget constraints) can the 48 IDA be used with near stock engine?  The engine in the car at the moment was rebuilt 30k ago and had exhaust sleeves removed, but that is pretty much it.  I ask this as if the 48 was ok for bridge and near stock, then I could go for this first and give myself a bit of time getting to know about carbs etc.

Last question is with regards to rebuild.  My spare engine supposedly had a rebuild less than 15k ago.  Assuming it has, is there a chance to re-use components that are typically replaced during a rebuild? as the rebuild kit is pretty much the most expensive part of my project.  If I could keeps costs down here, then that would be great.
What bits can be re-used?

Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

It may be a case of a basic rebuild with just fresh seals if it was rebuilt not too long ago.

On the carb front I\'m not all that sure but there is a huge wealth of info in the 1st gen section of //www.rx7club.com on carbing the 13b. Also Ausrotary is a good place to go too.

Have you considered going with EFI carb ?

Hope this gets you started.

Thanks very much for the info Shaun, I will have a good luck at this tonight.
Only problem I have with EFI carb is the extra expense to be honest.  Will look into it all the same, just so I consider everything.

Thanks again.
