I currently drive a 500 bhp Toyota as my daily.
It\'s for sale, and I\'m looking to get an 1993 RX7 FD3S.

How is the rotary as a daily? What\'s the mileage like (my Toyota does 1 litre to 8 kilometres (around 5 miles to the gallon))?

shaunwil

For motorway miles on a single turbo without a major port you should see about the same as the toyota. Its when you put your foot down it drops like a stone. I take you mean 8km per litre ?

They can be very good but very thirsty as a commuter car !

I work around 35 kilometres from where I live, of which 30 motorway.
The engine from the FD I\'m wanting is fairly stock.
Filters, exhaust and some kind of aftermarket ECU have brought it to 279.2 bhp according to the dyno printout with the car.

rotaries generally are fine. you can get more tan 20 mpg if you try hard.

biggest worry with an fd would the rats nest for sequential twins.

they don\'t like short journeys either, 35km\'s should be fine though

I use mine as a daily. It\'s only a car.....

As long as you look after her properly and don\'t mind the fuel bills you\'ll be absolutly fine. Just stay on top of any problems and any TLC the car needs, I ran it as a DD for about 9 months, and only problem was the sequential system, got it sorted no problem.

I can say that 9 months was an absolute hoot and I was quickly wasting fuel by the gallon. :D
Lil-Steve is.... loving it when a plan comes together.

I managed to get about 280 miles on a full tank when I did a run to Germany the other year. The only thing I find having a rotary as a daily drive (RX8 230) is keeping your foot off the loud pedal they don\'t like to go slow which is not a bad thing just more fun :D

And what is the tank capacity for a 1993 FD?

At the moment my MarkII does 450-ish km on a 65 litre tank (motorway only 500 km is doable, and I\'ve also emptied a full tank in 150 km on a trackday).

marcusd666

think its about 76 lts tank

No idea how many litres fill a tank, but my FD gets around 250 miles under mixed driving conditions full to empty. No idea what that is in km, either, sorry :o

As above really. Especially when you have a good ECU and map, I can hit 24mpg in mine 9.4l/100km when driving very carefully. But start winding the turbos up and you can hit over 20l/100km :S

jackaleks

i daily drive mine and use it pretty much every day of the week... on a full-time student\'s budget :)

it\'s very do-able!

Kenji

Cool then.

Back on the hunt for a good FD then :D (and sell my Toyota)
