heat light

Ok, just got to drive my car for the first time and a light with a piccy of what i think is an exhaust and the word " heat" (on the dashboard bottom left corner) keeps flickering on and off. There seems to be no set speed it comes on at. I have a straight thru exhaust fitted with no cat. Anyone got any ideas and is it bad?
