Hi there, can you run-in an unmapped engine before a remap. I understand you can`t take it above 2k rpm, and how many miles would i need to clock up before its remap? Also, after so many miles of boring 50mph running-in period, would i be able to take it above say 4k rpm after its remap or would i have to stretch its legs gradually.

Sorry for the dumb questions but i`ve never ran an engine in before and im scared its gonna f**kup again.

Yes you can run without a remap. If you\'re using different size injectors it\'s best to enter the proper injectors in your tuning software. Stay off of boost completely. You won\'t hurt the engine if you\'re lean under cruise, but if you\'re lean under boost you will have problems. If the engine is bucking under cruise you should add some fuel to the map, if it stinks of gas take some out. If you have a wideband it shouldn\'t be too hard to get some basic vacuum tune in place.

Do whatever break-in the builder recommends, but don\'t boost until it\'s tuned. Most builders run something like 500-1000 miles with no boost then slowly start raising the boost threshold until it\'s completely broke in. Some builders do no break in, tune immediately, and then continue a break in after its been tuned. They also usually limit rpms for the first X amount of miles and then start raising that.

Thanks for that. I like the idea of doing 500miles , gettin it remapped then once again running it in for another 100miles or so before a dyno run. Now i can`t wait!:3gears-rh

hi, just had mine rebuilt and told first 250 miles < 2500rpm, 250-500miles < 4000rpm, 500-750miles < 5000rpm and final 250miles <6000rpm also recomends 100ml of castrol r40 race oil per tank to help lube tips. never use more than 80% of full power during run in. then remap. hope that helps. jon.

Nice one for that, looks like im gonna be doing a very SLOW boring road trip to run it in. It`ll be worth it tho..

If you really want to be safe safe and have stock primary\'s whatever your mods a stock ECU will run it if you want to put some initial miles on it,

I have done this and whilst its painful, its safe as the engine will go into a limp type mode to protect it and you will only rev to 2800 rpm ( from memory)
All the best Clive

The only stock parts on the motor are the turbos and injectors. I have an apfc aswell as a standard ecu.

Rebuilt mine myself and ran the standard ECU until 1000 miles as the stock ecu has det protection whereas the Apexi dont. Changed the oil after 500 miles and then again at 1K and then changed to back to Apexi, increased rev\'s in stages up to 1500 with only slight boost. Obv i built mine tho so i was being cautious but depends on what the builder says. Now on nearly 7K since build and still not been mapped lol but run 1 bar and 850 primaries :)

as long as it was all tuned properly before the rebuild and nothing major has changed you should be fine running in without a re-tune. i asked hayward north about this and they told me run in before re tune. jon.

i am running in at the moment; pfc map is very rich and i\'m running premix so it stinks - and the 2nd turbo has been disabled, boost is limited at 0.8 bar and i havent been revving it over 5500rpm, and it is all going well. I was told a bit of boost \'helps bed in the seals but just dont thrash it\'!

max of 80% total engine power was recomended to me. i am sticking with my apexi as it is programmed for my mods, running 8+ co and high hc. have limited the apexi to 4000 rpm and 0.6 boost. jon.
