i (will) have a genuine Garrett t04e with .81 a/r hotside mated to an extended ported (large street port) block.
at what revs would the tub run out of puff?

am i right in thinking the spoolup will be super quick? full boost by 2500rpm/3000rpm?

how am i going to run in an engine on a stock base map (ap eng) if there is ful boost by 3000rpm?

cheers in advance :Thumbs-up

Disconnect the wastegate flap, or disconnect the air intake and stick another air filter on it (dont take the one off the turbo).

All ports are different, I would need to see them to be more precise, but the power curve will start to die past 7500rpm. Full boost of 20psi maybe by about 5000rpm, 14psi or near enough 1 bar at maybe 4500rpm.

That exhaust housing is wrong for a 13b, your EGT (exhaust gas temperature) will be over 1100deg C at full load

Very interesting - how couldl it have such poor spool, and cause high egt? Surely it\'s not too big?

I have a K27 with a T3 1.0 (could be 1.1 from oldskool Blitz kit) rear for mine with a \'street\' port aswell - would that be a better or worse match?

"spool" is relative to rate of change, where it spools on a dyno on fixed laod or up a long hill has little to do with where it spools on acceleration 1st gear is worst 5th is best 3rd gear is average, on a street port cause the compression is low and air is wasted on the compression stroke (leaks back out intake as port is still open!) they only work at high revs.

Putting on a small turbin housing is a fundamental mismatch to that porting type, so what ends up happening is sur ethe turbine wheel is driven harder (thus more boost) but more is WASTED out the exhaust valve or waste gate, as the physical turbine housing cant pass the gass flow, for the compressor to deliver the same boost (flow) it needs power, this power is derived from HEAT, FLOW and PRESSURE. You are diverting more the 15% more flow so to make the same power the pressure must go up and it does in my tests. This increased turbine pressure causes pumping losses on the exhaust stroke (more pressure acting against the rotor face on the open exhaust port) thus your power is lower on a smaller turbine housing, and the revs the engine can do are lower as well for the same reason.

For any decent street port the only solution is a 1.00A/R in T4 framed turbo and an OPEN exhuast with no catalyst and only one muffler, preferably 3.5" or larger in diameter, this will reduce post turbine pressure and thus lower your expansion ratio across the turbine, make it spool much faster (near your goal) reduce the Turbine inlet pressure and reduce the EGT alot. Everythign will improve, just it will be loud.

If you want a fast spooling mid range power monster you must run stock standrd porting cause street ports kill this. There is no magic way to reclaim that power without inducing the above explained results.

Crikey, that\'s a red hot assesment of the sitcho champ.

Just to chuck it in the mix and while you still feel like bothering with retarded questions - I also got S5 NA rotors (9.7:1) judging by the above I cant work out if that\'s going to help me or hinder me?

I hear Bainsdale is a nice part of the world, I have never been, but I got kinda close - my bro used to live in the dandenongs and I knocked off a bird from bendigo, she was a bit rough though :)

Thanks!

LOL "a bit rough"

That compression ratio is way to high unless you are going to run on 100% methanol or racing leaded fuel.

9.0:1 is too high on 98 octane, it requires non ideal ignition timing (retard) and also if you want high power like what I run you need to run Water Injection.

It\'s all relative to the fuel octane you run.

Hmmm... I guess you have been to bendigo then...:cool

Cripes, it looks like water injection for me now!

thanks for the info and a very good read al always rice racer :)
the .84 ar is only temp as the 1.15 ar exhaust housing i have is.. how should i say, made of cheese and apparently can fail anytime. (the 1.15 ar is off an old xs power unit)
would rather use wrong housing for now than risk sth blowing up / disintegrating.

liam.... i may have a housing in my garage that might be bigger than the .84... will dig it out tomorrow and have a look...

You know you don\'t have to drive balls out, foot to the floor everywhere, right? :chat
You can just use part throttle!

oh really?? i thought the throttle was like an on /off switch :rollin
i thought even on part throttle can still get boost?
(ps i not been driving a turbo car for long, had car for 3 yrs now and only driven it a handful of times lol)
