As some of you may know, i\'ve been having troubles with my EGi with it\'s emmisions on the MOT. (bound to be a common problem!) Again I had a fail the weekend, but the tester told me a way that I could pass it. If I could show him that my car was built before August 1987, then it would be tested under 1976 rules as stated in the handbook for the test. So I went home and found out that my car, even though registered as an 89, was actually built between Aug 85 and Jun 86!! Needless to say, I passed on this info to my tester and I now have a nice legal and MOT\'d car!

I just wanted to share on this info here in case you weren\'t aware, as it may help people with their tests. It also told me so much more about my cars history!

The first link breaks down your VIN number and explains what the letters and numbers mean.

The last link shows the production numbers (at the bottom of the page) which tell you roughly what year your car was made in.

Found it an interesting read. Hope it helps people out :)

If its pre-91 then its uses the cat-less test, mines a 91 and doesn\'t need to pass the cat test, even though it easily can :D

How did you pass that one? Only reason I ask is mine was kicking out emissions of 6% CO2!

Im still running an air pump, doesn\'t really take up that much space, the engine is running EPICLY rich (makes your eyes water and is caused by the fact I have an air pump) my CO% is 0.18% :)

Thats the benefit to be Dutch!
Over here in the Netherlands there is no emission test required for APK (Dutch MOT) for rotary engines:wiggle

When there is hanging a catalic converter under the car, it\'s ok, even if it produces 10% CO.
