Can anyone point me in the direction of how to remove as much of the rats nest as possible? I\'ve done a search but can find anything here. Thanks

thought the rats nest was all the solenoid and pneumatic lines used for control over the turbo\'s?

I\'m looking to remove all the vaccum lines and things for reducing the emissions (I may have got the wrong name - rats nest) that sit ontop of the engine and connect everywhere. I\'m pretty sure they\'re not all needed?

Yep - you can eliminate almost all of it actually - if you aren\'t bothered by emissions and run a fairly clean engine and well tuned.

If your EGI has all the solenoids and stuff down the side near the oil neck - most of these are to control the air valve that sits on the lower inlet manifold.  However, there are a couple of others.  One thing on the EGI\'s that you will need to keep or arrange an alternate conrol for is the 6 port actuators and the VDI solenoid - you can eliminate stuff like Split air (if you have no cat fitted), port air and relief.  You can also get rid of the PRC solenoid - but that will mean having to route the vac line from the manifold to the fuel pressure regulator directly - and when you start the car warm you may need to nurse the throttle a bit for the first few secs.

Brett is your best bet for advice with the EGI engines.

good stuff, I thought there was a way of getting rid of this lot. Any chance you can send me any links?

(or are there some for paid up members? ;))
