I want to give my stereo a bit of a bass boost but  done want any massive chavvy subs in the car firstly becauyse they arent my kinda thing and secondly because they take up to much space lol

has anyone here got any sort of mini sub mounted in the plastic on the storage bins (without losing the use of them) or any ideas hoiw i could do this? my sound system is almost complete and this with some ne front speakers with tweeters would be the final piece.

if anyone has anyideas please whack them in here im willing to try almost anything for that extra bit of bass

Cheers

P.S. i hope that all made sense lol

I know in the back of James\' EGI (from JM garage) he has fitted an 8" woofer that he has calculated to be just right for the space of an FC, not sure what its like for an FD though.

A small 8" sub might be able to fit behind the seats :)

L18M

you can get thin subs with shallow boxes
eg http://www.audiojunkies.com/blog/44/kicker-new-compvt-slim-subwoofer
not sure on sound quality.
else maybe a decent pair of 6x9\'s in the parcel shelf?

batman is the man to speak to on here.

i think i went a bit overkill getting a 15" sq kicker lol but the bass is epic!
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

What kind of sound are you going for? I used to be massively into sound quality ICE but have lost touch somewhat recently, and like you say there\'s not much space in the FD, or even a good shape to get a decent enough soundstage to even bother!

Like L18M suggested you can get flat subs, I had 2 12" Alto Mobile Falstaffs (like phase linear aliante\'s) in a fibreglass enclosure that replaced the wheel well, this was completely unintrusive with no loss of space... I\'d keep rolling with the fibreglass concept in your situation, something that\'ll fit snugly into your rear bins, an 8" would be fine to cover the bottom end.

the other option, get a realy good quality set of 8x5\'s for the rear..... made a hell of a difference when I put the kenwoods in the other year! and a good set of componants for the front & you\'ll be laughing!

A mate had a set of the focal 5" componants in his old corsa & the sound out of them was faultless, Realy crisp & clear bass! did cost him something like £270 for the door speakers mind, but you get what you pay for!!

Actualy, he might be up for selling them, as he is traveling for 6 months & want\'s to sell the car!

Cheers for all the replies I will measure out the bins and see what is possible and I will also look at a new set of speakers for the front and the rear as this may be a better option.

Keep the ideas coming lol

You didn\'t answer the fundamental question- What type of sound are you after?

If you just want a bit of sound fill, and not overly fussed with the sound quality then a set of 8 x 5\'s will do. There\'s no real point upgrading the door speakers with anything worth actual money. Some of you may have noticed when you sit in your seat or have a passanger, that side speaker will get muffled, it\'s an innate flaw of speaker locations/seating positions of the FD.

You probably also noticed the lack of tweeter mounting positions, unless you\'re willing to fabricate, components won\'t be used how they\'re meant to be.

They\'ll most definitely sound awful without proper sound deadening in the doors either.

In short if you want to do it properly, do it well balanced, don\'t spend a fortune on components and install them in stock locations with no sound deadening, you\'ll just be wasting money.

There are a smaller style of 6x9 bass speaker (like a sub) that a friend put in his F355 ! I cant remember the make of these but they sound pretty awesome and were nearly square ! So there around :)

Jit

wtf? Im not professing to know much about sound quality and audio in general - but since when was a square or oval shaped speaker looking to be an optimal solution? Or indeed speakers mounted in the middle of thin air?

Number7

Erm! Don\'t ask me I know squat about audio, I was only saying what a friend did in a car that lacked space!! And didn\'t sound that bad !

SiH

Genesis make 6x9 subs IIRC. But they\'re not infinite baffle, so still need boxing.
Speaker shape doesn\'t matter two hoots. It\'s not the shape of 6x9\'s that\'s given them a bad rep, it\'s the way they are used.

To the OP -I\'d look at a small sealed punchy sub to fill in the bottom end. Something like an old school JL audio 8 would be perfect, and if driven well off a decent amp will give you a lovely bottom end range. If it were me I\'d be running something like a JL W6V2 from a Genesis Profile Sub - not super cheap, but you really get what you py for. As a general rule, you can\'t go wrong with JL :)

Its possible to fit two 8" subs in the boot without compromising luggage space but takes a bit of planning and calculating to get the right volume.
They work really well too and add to the overall sound without being overpowering - when the engine isnt running! otherwise the bass gets drowned out by the Nur Spec - something to consider

FD3S Efini

Did you install those two 8inch subs yourself? Do you have any pics of the install?

did the whole lot myself as the dimensions are quite particular but it fits in very snug. the box looked rubbish tho until i covered it but now it looks alright. parcel shelf still fits aswell so its all concealed
