Hey guy, my name is Iain, im up in bonny scotland (aberdeen), im a member of JDMtas.com, feel free to join up, say that McC sent you, i want a coconut!:Thumbsup!

I have just swapped my broken AE86 Corolla for a really fugly fronted FD, i will let you guys have your say on the front end:

i dont know what model it is, it has litterly fallen into my lap. The situation was that i had a broken hachi and my work was starting to get abit :Grrr at me coming in late all the time, so this guy wanted a project and he had a working car,so i took it!

iv heard stories about these, and if their not looked after then they can be a pain in the hole.....blah blah blah. so iv taken it easy this weekend.

could i possibly get some tips and advice on how to look after her and what to check for please,it would be much appreciated.

one problem that i may have, is that 1-2mins after iv turn it on, the temperature light comes on and starts beeping, it does go off when temp increases to 85 degrees. surly everytime you turn any car on its going to be cold, so why does the fd beep about it?

also was just wondering if there is any scottish members on here that mite know of a garage that i could put this into to get it checked over.

Cheers McC

Hi welcome, you will find all the info you need to keep it in good running order on MRC, low water buzzer should not do that, check your water level, if its ok check the sensor, the front end is a Knightsport if you decide to change it would like dibs on the lights.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find it myself...
But i can always do with some help now due to, my advancing years!

Think you will find the buzing is due to the low water sensor!! you could find it\'s a dodgey cap on the AST tank as this is where the water is pushed in ot & drawn back from the header tank (Just behind the driverd headlight). the reason for the buzzer going off when it warmes up is due to the water expanding, so it does sound more likely to be a cap or blocked pipe to the header tank rather than the water seals going!!

what mileage has the engine done & have you got any proof of rebuild?? reason I ask is I\'d be dubious of some one wanting to swam a good running FD for a broken AE86! alarm bells sounding a little with me!
But welcome to the club matey, I\'m sure there is enough knowlage on here to keep it in tip top running order & your credit cards in check ;)

Hi Mate, you\'ll find it a nightmare trying to find anyone up here that will look at an RX7!

I\'ve used AVA in Paisley to set-up mines on the dyno there and i think they\'ve worked on a few in the past, so maybe worth giving them a ring.
Also used Hypertech in Falkirk for a couple of things who are great, but they wont touch the engine.
There\'s Rice Rockets out by Peebles, the only RX7 specialist up here i believe - ive not used them though as they are a bit further out for me, but not heard anything bad.

You could always for a laugh phone up Mazda and listen to the fear in the service depart when you mention "rx7" to them :Giggle .... then take a seat when they give you their hourly rate of 80 quid plus vat for it!!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of RX7 ownership.  For the buzzer issue I would say you could have different issues.  The easiest and hoepfully the simplest is to purge any air in the coolant system.  The one I fear is a collany seal leaking.  At some point in its life the car might have overheated.  This will cause the rotor to slightly warp and one of the coolant seals to fail.  This was my issue:  I started the car when cold the buzzer would sound.  After warmup it would go out.  Let the car sit overnight and the same thing would happen.  The coolant would overflow from the overflow bottle onto the ground.  I hope this is not your issue!  Labor is expensive for these cars, so I hope you are mechanically inclined.  Good luck.

thanks for the suggestions lads!

i will keep you in mind when i decided what im doing with it clarky

jono, its sitting at just over 100,000 kilometers, the guy that i swapped with said that it had a rebuild by the guy that own it b4 him but didnt have any proof because he did it himself, he was trying to get me to put money with my broken hachi, but i said that since that there was no proof then i had to go on the belief that it hasnt had a rebuild.

well this morning i was heading into work and then the water temp hit the ceiling, after closer inspection its a burst radiator hose! I only had a quick look so im hoping it has just perished and not burst due to a build up pressure which would obviously lead to another problem....super!

Ada7

Rather a busted radiator hose than an engine problem.
Welcome to the club and the wonderful world of rotary ownership :wave
