Hi guys,
I am wanting to do an oil change quite soon and would like to know what engine oil and diff oil you recommend. Car seems to have run off Shell Helix oil for most of its life given the service records and receipts I have.
Is this regarded as the best by owners or just the previous keepers preference.

Your own experiences would be helpful.

I\'ve always worked on the past wisdom that you do not use synthetic or part synthetic oils in the 12A because the additives get left behind on the tips/seals and gum up. Plus the other wisdom is that you change engine oil at 3000 miles, which makes synths a bit expensive. So for 24 years I have used Castrol GTX or Duckhams 10W 40 or 20W 40 mineral oils in 3 cars with no engine probs. Being low mileage I now change at about 2000/2,500 mile intervals.
As for Shell Helix in the engine - I wouldn\'t because I think that\'s full synth.
Back Axle and Gearbox I do use Full Synthetic, Valvoline Synpower Gear Oil 75W 90 grade.
