I\'ve never seen an intercooler positioned like this. Is it common? Does it make any difference to have it front mounted?

Thanks for your help!

Thats whats known as a v-mount intercooler.

I\'m not sure whats the advantage over front mount (other than it preventing hoooge great big stones penetrating thro a front mount).

Anyone else know why they are posyioned like this?

Dan!!
Turned into the worst part of my life....my precious fd3 has gone, but never forgotten....roll on a new life!!!!

the reason people are going for this set up is that with a front mount the air goes through the i/c before the Rad and this means it is slightly warmer by the time it gets to the rad. With this, the rad gets cold and so does the i/c, but i think that for this to be efficient you need to have a vented bonnet. I might be wrong but i think the only way you would get air through it is on its way out through the bonnet.  You will also get better flow through the rad as the air isnt slowed down by the i/c. faster air is cooler air.

good to see a fellow bubble on here.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Thats a shark (they dont have tongues btw ) u monkey :) Scraping the smily barrel, eh Si? :D

Any one running a v-mount setup? I know Miguels is but I thought his water temps sounded quite high which put me off? any others out there that can comment? cant say i\'ve really heard that many people with REAL coolant issues running front mounts...?

I digress it\'s not something i\'d ever looked at in great detail but i just presumed the V mount was one of best ways to di it so i\'ll watch with interest...........

Thanks for the help guys. I\'m going to look at this car tomorrow and just wanted to make sure everything was cosha as i hadn\'t seen that set up before!
It hasn\'t got a vented bonnet at the moment so if i buy it maybe that should be y first mod?

Thanks again.

mmmmmm dont like the idea of that taking up alot of bay space but i supose it looks gr8 and if you have vents in ur bonnet it will cool very well the nissan sunny gtir and some subarus have it like that only it sits right on top of the engin
when your life is a mess light one more ciggaret its so logical!

It flows through the front, and out of the vented bonnet.  Not in through the bonnet.  That would be a bit crap!

difference is a scooby TMIC (top mounted intercooler) has air coming down thru scoop for it, guess GTiR is same? this V mount is still taking air from the front http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_3_10.gif\' border=0>& venting it up & out thru potential holes in bonnet, that\'s way i red it anyhow.....

Hi,
I will have a go at explaining this setup. The idea behind it is that the radiator and intercooler get uninterupted air. You have low pressure in the bay, and high pressure going over the bonnet. With the vented bonnet, the high pressure over the bonnet `sucks out´the air under the intercooler, thus you have constant air flow going through the cooler and out of the bay, rather than have it go through the cooler and have it trapped in the bay, as with the front mount. The other benifit is that hot air rises, so with this setup there is more surface area for this to escape.
Shorter pipeing is also a bonus.

I hope i have not cofused anyone, and put the benifits of this setup across appropiatly.
I have a similar setup in my TII, although the cooler will be changing as it is to small. Pics in the 2nd Gen forum.
