having just failed my mot on emissons i was wondering if my ecu could be the reason. i was told by super7 i have a knights sports ecu would this be y its running rich and making my emssions to high? was wondering if i got a standard ecu woud this sort it out? my rx7 is standard only a dump valve and hks back box. i also rolling roaded it and i was bit down on power only made 245 would a standard ecu maybe sort this out to? this is just a idea would it work? not sure y the ecu is knights sports if its just standard anyway, knights sports any good?

a standard ecu should be leaner, i think that you dont need an aftermarket ecu for that power really, i have a standard ecu i could send you for 30 quid. if you need. I can imaging the knightsports running rich on a standard setup so you may loose some power there and have poo emmisions.

I\'ve got a knight sport ecu and mine failed the MOT as well on emissions. I\'m going to try a standard ecu for the repeat MOT, can\'t do any harm!!!
I\'ve also just bought a Blitz R Fit to try and sort the Knightsport one out.

so are the standard ecu all set up the same or have they changed them for diffent models and years mines a 93

Easiest option would be to dope your fuel to get it through on emissions. One option you can legally use as fuel is E85 run the tank nearly empty add a gallon to get it through the MOT then top up with petrol asap. If you can\'t get E85 near you there\'s another option, but mail me for details. For obvious reasons keep the boost low until your sure your back to 100% petrol in your tank as you wont be mapped for the alternate fuels.

Sounds good but if a new ecu sorts the power out 2 and will only cost 30 I\'ll prob try that 1st then if it still fails I try the new fuel thanks for the sneaky idea

Kev-yorks can you mail me the "other option" please, just incase I can\'t get E85.

Although on a gen 2 I found that the idle/mix on a stock ECU to be the same as a chipped one and I did try 2 of them. Most of the extra fuelling is for when you give it some right foot and obviously gets rid of fuel cut, better fuel and increase boost. Worth trying a standard as you never know as some chipped ECU\'s can be mapped to order in Japan and may well have come from a track/race car.

right turns out i dont have a knights sports ecu, super7 mislead me should of checked. but anyway i bought a standard ecu b4 i that found out, so thought i\'d swap it anyway, just ran it for about 20min on the drive and its smoking now, didnt b4 with the old ecu its white smoke any idea why its doing this?

franky

Any1? White smoke bad?

fil_auto

white smoke generally oil... or poss water! Best get that checked over....

Think there\'s prob an dunderlyin issue there... ECu wouldn\'t make that much diff with ref to smoke......

Am sure someone else will jump on shortly and correct me?! :Hammer
