Hi people,

Recently bought an RX-7 for £5000 only to find 1000km later the water seal fails... i have decided to rebuild the engine myself with my uncle who is a mechanic.  I was looking for a rebuild kit on the internet but I can\'t find anything.  Does anybody know where to purchase one?

Also, Has anyone tried using the DIY RE13b DVD set to accompany the rebuild, if so is it worth it?

ebay.com ! check compresion before pulling the engine out it will give you an idea of its health ! but if it is just a seal and everything is in tolerance its happy days and a cheap rebuild

If you buy from ebay chances are it will be an atkins rotary kit, if you buy just consider you may or may not get hit with import tax (i did) when i bought my kit from Pinaple, I also had half the kit go missing the post! :xconfused

List of kits:
Rotary Art
Pinapple
Atkins
Rotary Aviation

there are more :Giggle

i\'ve just done a rebuild with the DVD you stated and it helped quite a lot for a first timer :spank
I woof in your general direction.

Thanks guys,

Will give ebay a look, what would I have to look for compression wise. I mean wouldn\'t an engine needing a rebuild be have low compression readings anyway? would the reading depend on what kit you have to buy or should i take a reading first and then buy a kit dependent on the reading?

Or is it just a good idea to just buy a master kit and then add on additional parts if needed... As you can guess I haven\'t had to rebuild a RX-7 before lol.

well if its got good compression, low 7\'s ish then all you could do is just replace the water seals and make sure everything else is within the tolerances.

just depends what you want the car for, if it was me, for peace of mind i would just want to the replace it all, ie full rebuild kit.

i got mine from pineapple racing with heavy duty waterseals.

ive read alot about the pineapple waterseals, defo worth the money, but i second karl with if its out then replace as much as your budget can stretch too

I\'m of the opinion while you have the engine in bits why not replace the lot! that way yo have a fresh engine and it saves you having to do it agian in the near or distant future :3Confused

I\'ve got to give pineapple a BIG thumbs up, i orderd the kit from them.. it went missing they sorted the issue out, they also gave me 2 free water seals when the ones i had from them got destroyed due to a foolish rebuild practice :Thumbsup!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I think i will take peoples advice and just replace as much as i can afford.  Pineapple racing sounds good although i did take a look on the site and couldn\'t see a \'kit\' just individual parts, will look again though.

Another thing... how easy is it to add porting? i noticed pineapple racing have a template but never tried it myself.  Also would this be a good idea on a stock rx7 with sequential twins? ie could there any problems with porting or does porting require any other parts to be changed/added.

Thanks :)

p.s Love the support and help from everyone on MRC forums.. can\'t beat it :wiggle

it there any major differences between kits from pineapple and rotary aviation / atikins etc, there seems to be quite a big price difference

Cheers

Bit of a Tip if you do the rebuild yourself, there are two things you should always use OE Mazda Parts, the water seals and the Rotor Springs (its quite important).

After market Water seals are more trubble than there worth, if you want my advice contact //www.dragonperformance.co.uk or //www.rxmotors.co.uk they seem to have the best deals at the moment.

This gives you an idea what a rebuild vid is like (this is the Mazdatrix one) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYtUZtRW1S8&feature=related i think there are a few different ones now so may be worth your while doing a bit of research into the best one.
