just had a new exedy clutch fitted and although the clutch feels great i hate the way the car now shakes vibrates rattles and grates when launching and when accelerating hard....any suggestions to lessen this?

Maybe its just the clutch bedding itself in, you need to take it easy on brand new clutches and not rag them too hard, as no matter what brand they are, they very rarely come out the factory perfectly aligned with your clutchplate/flywheel, so you need to give the clutch material time to bed into your existing surrounding parts... thats my diagnosis anyway

Which clutch is it ?? I\'ve got a Excedy Hyper and it rattles on low pressure but bites like crazy. Biting point is interesting to say the least. It does get better but needs to be got used to !

ye my exedy clutch ive fitted felt shocking. pedal was like pressing a tractor clutch it was horrible.. fiew days later it has bedded in or either ive got used to it. but the clutch is TOTALLY different its like driving a totally different car to the old clutch.

yeah the exedy hyper i think, i dont mind how it bites and its quite easy to drive, i just hate how it makes everything vibrate and the stupid noise that gos with it like my cars falling apart when i accellerate in first and second 3rd is usually ok....

nuki

perhapse somthing is wrong then as mines never juddered ever since i fitted it even the first 5 minutes it never juddered... did you replace the pilot bearing? if not what condition was it ??

steve77964

release bearing was changed and brand new.... it might just be my imagination but it makes the car feel slower too!

nuki

the pilot bearing is smaller in diameter than a penny. sits in the flywheel and the gearbox tip sits in the pilot bearing for guidance.. if the bearing has failed you will get judder when setting off... the release bearing is totally different. :) the pilot bearing and seal looks like this

steve77964

Sounds like it could be this....i will get on to Steve Garbutt at Hayward Rotary North as my car needs to go in anyway for some unique bonnet pins fitting :D

I don\'t know if this is relevant but i\'ve had a cupple of Twin plate clutches and they tend to rattle / make funny noises etc, i had an OS unsprung twin that sounded like the gear box was shot every time i pushed the peddle down.

That said i have also experienced a Pilot bearing fail, even though it did make funny noises mine was more under load (bit at idle but not as bad as the twins) a classic time for the Pilot bearing to go is immediately after the engine/Box has been split, mine was caused by me not lining the engine up properly when refitting (its surprisingly easy to do).

Also have a look at the mounts, a bad engine/box mount will cause vibration etc under load.
