Hi peeps,

well just as the title say\'s i\'m having idle problems.
i\'ve got a 1st gen s3 with a standard nikki carb.
she idles really lumpy and the rev\'s drop slowly until she konks out.
any clues?

Is this from cold or from warm ??

If cold there is a manual choke in the dash that is supposed to pop back in when the car is warm.

Could be fueling issue. Plenty of 1st gen Nikki carb threads on rx7clubs 1st gen section. Think there is a big link to a good thread in the FAQ section.

it\'s when the car is warm, will have a look in the FAQ.

i think it might be one of the vacuum tubes to the idle solenoid valve thingy.
apparently it splits as it sits right over the manifold. as the engine warms the rubber softens and passes air through the crack and idle becomes iractick or as mine does, will not run for long before conking out.
am yet to see if this is the cause but i have a strange feeling this is the case as it explains all of the symptoms.

Might be a diaphragm in the carb or a blocked jet. Or simply needs a good service and the points/timing and carb setup. My RX3 used to die just like that but purrs now :)
