Really really dont do it now!!!

Im currently in japan and have been around many garages over here and for the the fd3s anyone who keep hold looks like they will make a whole lot of money in the coming months due to import becoming either obsolete or very VERY expensive

For example, the rex available 8months ago for 4k in grade 3.5\\ 4.0 with mods is now pretty much 7.5k with todays rate of exchange.

looking through an equivelant autotrader in japan there is not a decent fd for sale for less than 900k yen which 8 months ago would be 4.5k is now 8k. tbh most good models are around the 1.2millionyen mark which breaks down as 10grand to us plus the carriage fee from japan.

many cars are betwwen 1.2 and 2.0 million yen.

If you have a tidy FD my advice from japan is keep hold.

Yep, thats exactly true mate.

There are many people out there selling now for cheap. These people do so due to their situation. However, once the cheap ones are out and people try and import in others wont so due to the abnormal exchange rate. Quality FD\'s should increase in price or atleast not go unsold for ages in the near future I think!

Funny this, I\'ve always said one day they\'ll be importing them back after we all finished with them, and they\'ve run out of cars and spares:rollin

Just a quick update after talking to various fd tuner\'s at the auto salon and reports are sales to the uk for parts etc has fallen in the past 6 months by 70% and expected to continue to get worse.

bare in mind these were tuners we all know and love i.e Knightsport/Re-A/Rmagic etc

Gimme a day or two and ill post up all my pics from the event

hmm, interesting.

I take it its not just rx7`s this affects though, it must be all japanese cars?

Yup correct all qualilty imports imo will shoot up in price within the coming year in fact from now on and could even be a rare thing to get hold of unles you have plenty of money in the following year.

The usual cheap rough crap will still be available but good qualitly japanese imports will be obsolete in this county this year imo.

A medium quality fd/skyline/scoob or s15 was well into the 1.2 million yen mark when i left japan which as said previously is 10k to you and me before import costs

You also have to remember any RX7 is a rare care anyway, as more get broken in accidents and crushed the value of the car will go up eventually , once this recession is over in 2 years, a well sorted polished FD will be worth more then a RX8, so a nice twin turbo worth 4k will be worth 7k again.

Remember Ford Sierra Cosworths you hardly see them on the road now, they are highly desirable and worth over 10k even though there is newer and faster cars out.

Any quality rear wheel drive sports car when gets old enough goes up in value as the numbers on the roads decline

yeah it may be the case that they are more expensive over there due to the exchange rate. but be aware that the current recession over here is forcing peope to cut back on luxuries and reluctant to buy performance cars due to running costs.

i believe that due to these stronger market factors over here, the prices will continue to drop as the economy further drops into recession and people increasingly tighten the purse strings and gas guzzlers become cheaper due to not selling

But people that are interested in Rx7 are usually young and not sensible so they wont care about the future:Giggle

fair point but they are the ones who are losing their jobs right now so even they are fewer on the ground than normal :D

Even though in theory I tend to agree with what your say in reality i dont think it\'ll work out like that (unfortunately).

I do believe that by the time we get to a point where there are only a small number of FD\'s forsale in the UK which can then demand a decent price tag I think the exchange rate will have probably partially recovered.  Therefore making importing a viable option again.

Although saying that now, when you look on pistonheads the number of RX7\'s for sale has dropped to 40, but in actual fact when you browse through 21 are only still for sale as the rest are sold.  This number is alot less than the 70+ they had on there 6 months ago.....

Who knows??

The way i look at it,

if you buy a RX in the coming months its going to be hard to sell when you decide to do so, so if you buy a RX now its got to be for a decent price as you could be stuck with it for some time .......

As an example my old Purple FD was up for sale at £8500 for best part of 6 months and did not sell even though its a top spec car, it finally sold last month for £6000 !!!! its of course worth more than that but its a sign of the times.

I\'ve said before too its not just rotaries, the Evo market has also bombed, a Evo 5 can be had for £5800 and a Evo 6 for as little as £6500 - obviously the more decent spec\'d ones will have a higher price, same goes for the GTR market, a R33 GTR can be had for £6995 !!!!
