I\'ve been reading a lot of articles recently on the operation of the twin turbo setup. It seems popular in the US to fit a manual boost controller. This seems a fairly simple procedure, and I have located a 4mm valve for sale on ebay.
Has anybody had any experience in such a mod. (yes ! I already have the apexi ecu etc etc.)
The manual valve is used to replace the pills in the actuator vacuum lines. You can fit one in each i.e boost and pre-control.

Adrain, these are called bleed valves. I wouldnt trust one of these on any of my cars.

But you would only need one on the actuator feed.

Can you elaborate on that .... why would a bleed valve be less trustworthy than a brass pill or a electronic boost controller. I suppose if somebody fiddled with it after you had set it, maybe.

I read the the pre-control valve is useful for removing boost spikes by limiting the pre-spool time of the secondary turbo.

It all comes down to atmospherics. Electronic controllers sort of allow for this, and the brass fitted as standard are fitted as standard so this limits the amount of air going through it.

A bleed valve is set by the user, so can allow more/less air to pass. The ECU can deal with less, but not more.

Always control boost via the ECU/boost controller. I have seen plenty of engines visit the grave yard early due to these things.

I thought restricting the flow increased boost as it takes longer for waste gate to open.
When I was suffering from boost spikes, Pip (WGT, god bless him!) fitted a pill with a larger diameter hole.
I now have apexi ecu with a more generous fueling map and I want some boost back, but dont want to have to change to a pre-determined pill size, hence the bleed valve.
What do you think !

Sorry could have got that the wrong way around. Sorry. :(

It\'s been a long time since I did anything like this. I know that some of the subaru guys use whats called a Dawes Device to help control boost.

why dont you increase the boost using the apexi commander, I thought you could adjust the % on the duty solanoids and hence increase boost on each turbo?
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!
