So apart from the many ignition amplifiers such as the HKS type, I have been trying to see what else there is on the market to get a better spark for my FC.  I did have a Cranes Cams unit but it was so big and just wanted less clutter in the engine bay.
Has anyone actually used the Spitfire multispark enhancers? they seem so simple, have got years of history to support the stronger spark and I have seen a demostration on these and it does what it says. However will these do what they say they will do for the rotary? I dont see why not and just wondered if anyone has used them to any success or will I be the guinee pig?

Hmm I would be interested with the outcome of this, all I know is that they don\'t make very good spark plugs lol Im not sure how something in the HT lead could increase the spark as its not getting an increased input. What did you do with your crane cams btw?

I got this from a landrover forum:

http://www.landrovernet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23484

Seems it just sparks more rather than get a bigger spark, not sure how thats going to affect the leading and trailing arangement in the rotary as there are 2 plugs for chamber rather than 1 in a piston powered car.

Gave that to Carl Hayward as part payment for my rebuild.

Think its all to do with resistance and that whatever the devise built inline help to increase the resistance and hence a stronger spark to jump across the gap. Not sure if any of this is felt at the coil end, ie have these been known to do any damage. There are so many mixed reports across the net but sometimes this sort of info is better coming from within the Club if its been tried and tested.

May be my imagination but I think I read about GM LS1 coil packs being used on rotary engines? Maybe worth a search on rx7club.

pdtaylor18

The standard coil packs are very good and will cope with most things thrown at them but you know how it is with us trying to find better ways of improving things. I\'ll have a search for those coil packs and see what info i can get. A lot of car nowadays have the single coil jobby thing going to each sparkplug, just trying to explore different avenues.

maybe its just a capacitor in there..?
hows about a hks twin spark? or is that same as craine cam?
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

pdtaylor18

The twin spark would be my route anyway as its small and can be tucked away quite nicely. The Cranes Cam unit is just too big to look like it belongs in the engine bay and I doubt I would have room to fit it.

my advice? Take one apart. Then you will realise what the promise cannot be recognised pratically from the unit they sell.

I have fitted several to different cars and have yet to see an affect from the spitfire leads apart from bad running if they touched the block.

When i dismantled mine it had  self tapping screw and a loose fitting washer in the plastic case. It cost me £40 and i was very dissapointed.

Dont beleive it. Theres no way something that isnt powered can imrpove spark power output. The demo they do is undr atmospheric conditions - not the harsh environment you see in the combustion chamber. Also the \'multi spark\' is ........ because the spark will always jump between the electrode closest to the copper or iridium contact there is no way to make it jump over different paths.

Go buy yourself an MSD system. You really need to justify what you want and why you want stronger spark over the FC setup, which is quite a good upgrade from the first gen ignition system.

pdtaylor18

I do seem to agreee with you there after visiting numerous sites and all pretty much rubbished these leads as useless.  The only reason why I want stronger sparks is that a few people have fitted either Cranes Cam or HKS twin power and have noticed a big difference. I will be running a TO4E turbo, bigger injectors,FMIC etc etc so its just nice to have the biggest and longest spark that is needed to combust everything.  It does improve starting, improves performance and in general improve reliability from flooding etc.
I will more than likely go down the HKS route once I have found one for a decent price.

i know its first gen but take a look here:

lots of decent info.

For my money, MSD is well established, support is ace and its reasonable money/second hand parts availability.

hope this helps
