Just cleaning the engine parts up when I came across this dent on one face of the rotor.

First of all is it bad, is the rotor useable? Secondly, what would actually cause this?

thanks

great help there bud.. thanks

its bad isnt it? caused by overheating or a defect in the rotor casting or combo of both

Jim_rx7

It\'s re-useable according to pineapple racing video - as long as the groove for the apex seal etc is fine.

They called it "ping" damage, normally from high horsepower engines.

In my local Mazda garage they have a rotor like that with detonation damage, worse that what you have though, personally I would change the rotor for a new one, that dent might cause the rotor to be unbalanced perhaps? Although technically it has lowered the compression ratio on that rotor :D lol

for the sake of 100-150 (for a replacement) i wouldn\'t risk running it....
Definately want it mate but the dog has just died so will be getting the missus a new dog for christmas....
Sounds like a good deal but will have to ask the dragon first.....  :flamed  :spank

That exact thing happened to mine. Mine was from detontation. Apex seal stuck in rear rotor, and that dent in the front rotor. Exactly the same. Tim at RX motors said it would be ok too, but i decided for peace of mind to replace it.

yeah, I would also assume detonation was the cause. No other signs of damage though unless this rotor was simply re-used when it was last rebuilt?

All the same I think I\'ll replace it.
