I\'m considering putting an aftermarket downpipe on my FD, HKS or Feed or similar. I only have a few mods atm, HKS induction kit and back box, and thats about it engine wise. Will it affect the running of the engine by having a more free flowing down pipe?? I guess what I\'m saying is will it be ok with the standard ECU, or will it cause problems?? I am wanting an Apexi PFC but as funds are low atm it\'s not on the cards for a while. Am I better off waiting until I have the commander and can get it remapped if needs be, or will it be ok with the standard ECU??

yes it will cause problems Arnie! you will get boost creep, and it could cause detonation, best bet is to get the Apexi first, then fit all the bits you want to modify, then you will need the Apexi mapped,

Thats pretty much how I blew my engine, Put a downpipe and a free flowing exhaust, and a couple of weeks later on a cold day kaaaaboooom, I would wait and save for apexi than have to spend 3k plus on a new engine like I did and then had to buy apexi.
The new downpipe will cause better spooling of your turbos which could lead to boost spikes, your standard ecu will find difficult to deal with this. thus potentially leading to Det as the engine will run lean.
Hope that answers ur question.

Fantastic! I thought it might cause problems, I\'ll just have to get saving for a commander!! Problem is, I keep seeing all these other bits and peices and end up buying them and spending my dosh!!! Better will power and a disappearing credit card is in order methinks!!

Cheers for the help guys, most appreciated.

You dont need the commander to get the Apexi ecu mapped mate. A tuner will plug a laptop into the Apexi and tune in that way.

Just in case you didnt know.

Yeh, I meant I need to save for the whole lot!! The Apexi FC and commander if I can afford it!! (When I can afford it!) Better get xmas out the way first tho methinks!!

Cheers anyway.
