Not sure if this is the right section to post this in, but here goes anyway...

Just drivin back from the Wings and Wheels show today (great day out) but noticed a horrible sound coming from the rear near side wheel. I have noticed this before but thought it may have just been something stuck somewhere hitting the brake discs as it stopped, or the brake pads have worn out and the low level tabs hitting the disc, but now its gotten a lot worse and i\'m thinking it the wheel bearing instead.
How could i confirm this for sure myself?
If it is the bearing is there one or two on each side?
And where would be the best place to get them and how much should they be?

Thanks :Thumbs-up

I think the wheel bearings are horribly expensive and have to come from Mazda, IIRC from my own horror story with such things. You have to replace a big chunk of the hub assemby, I don\'t think you can just change the bearing itself cos it\'s all in one big unit. One easy way is to see if there\'s any play in the wheel that can\'t be accounted for by suspension movement. If you get the wheel up in the air and find you can waggle it by hand, especially top to bottom, it\'s a fair bet the bearing\'s fubar. Even if it doesn\'t move, you should be able to hear if it\'s clonking or grinding the bearing cages around.

Well i jacked my car up and had a bit of a look about. There is some play in the wheel which to me suggests the bearing is worn out :(
Would it be easier then to get a second hand hub?
Did take my mate out for a little drive in it and he seems to think it could just be the brake pads that have worn out
I am taking my car down to ReWorks on thursday so i\'ll get them to have a look also and see what they say.

I replaced a rear wheel bearing at a cost of 80 pounds and 20 to push the old one out and replace with the new one - the only thing that you will need is a bearing and possibly a new hub nut - Clive can get you this easily. You\'ll have to look around a alot of kwik fit garages don\'t have big enough equipment to do an FD bearing. A second hand one will do but will obviously not last as long.

Cheers Ben. Think me and Kieron are gonna do a temperary swap with one of his hubs then get the bearing sorted out at a later date so i dont have any problems getting the car down to ReWorks on thursday.
