Hi all-

Changed the AST for a (basically) new one. The old one had some gunk in it, and looked worse for wear compared to the new one, so only a good thing that I\'ve changed it.

But......
The engine is still making angry monster gurgling noises when I get home, at the top of the hill. So obviously its getting hot when working hard, under load............
So could it just be the AST or Radiator caps?!

Also- the system doesnt look that clean, wouldnt be worth getting a new rad would it?

Oh yes- drained it, flushed it with water, flushed it with rad flush, and now full of water at the moment.....

Is there a bleed screw though?

are you using new rad/ast caps? what temps are you seeing? if it isn\'t getting hot then it most likely is either an airtrap or leaky pressure caps. If it is getting hot, tinkling noises often mean boiling under pressure. If you idle the car from cold, with the filler cap off, no \'champagne bubbles\' i take it?

Your cooling system seems pretty grim... Are you losing water? New caps would be a good idea & if you lose water it often means u need em, as for the gunk- doesn\'t rad cleaner flush it through?

CharlieP

New caps are the next step....
May run the rad flush through again

Only got the standard gauge at the moment, but that never moves.

It only gets extra hot when coming up the hill- i.e.loaded but moving quite slowly.
Doesnt make the hot bubbling noises after a hard drive (on the flat)

If it\'s bubbling, it\'s got trapped air in it. This will cause it to overheat. Pull the Throttle body hose off and bleed it properley. Are you using coolant? What ratio are you using?

Ok- I\'ll do that once I\'ve got the new AST cap

It did have coolant to start with, but from the looks of the colour and system I guess it hadnt been changed for a while and therefore proabably not working as it should
