F1 cars run that amount of tyre wall to get the fled in the side wall as it generates heat in the tyre. Also because there auspention is very hard, it allows a bit of give over kerbs.
Personally too low a profile tire makes a car have less feel on the limit. I can\'t see the point of extreme stretch

the heavier the car the stronger the sidewall requirement.  Light weight kit like a caterham R500 run a 13inch wheel with 60 profile tyres, they only weigh 500 kg so the side wall can be taller but still remain stiff,  therefore you get the best of both worlds,  F1 cars are light so can get away with taller sidewalls for the same reason,  look at the pictures though, you dont see the tyre having lateral movement in the bends.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Seriously, the Kerb argument is a ridiculous one - like i said, if you are kerbing your wheels with a stretched tyre, then you would be kerbing the sidewalls of the tyre and damaging them with a wider one.

Either way, you can\'t drive. Learn to :p ;)

From the tyre bible:

Too wide or too narrow - does it make a difference?

Given all the information above, you ought to know one last thing.
A rim that is too narrow in relation to the tyre width will allow the tyre to distort excessively sideways under fast cornering. On the other hand, unduly wide rims on an ordinary car tend to give rather a harsh ride because the sidewalls have not got enough curvature to make them flex over bumps and potholes. That\'s why there is a range of rim sizes for each tyre size in my Rimwidthulator above. Put a 185/65R14 tyre on a rim narrower than 5inches or wider than 6.5inches and suffer the consequences.

Personally I think the stretch look is gash - just my 2p worth.
